  • I think it's dumb that I have to buy school supplies for everyone to share. Why can't it be like way back when were everyone supplied for their own kid? I would save money for sure.
I also hate having to buy scissors every year! I never get them back, and what happens to all the scissors from last year?

  • I have recurrent dreams about an ex boyfriend. He wanted to marry me and sometimes I wonder what my life would be like had we gotten married. I enjoy having those dreams. Am I an awful wife?

  • I clearly don't have any school aged kids yet, but you have to bring school supplies for the whole class rather than just your kid? I can see being unhappy with that. (And I agree with @ASmallWonder - not unhappy with the teachers but with the budget situation).

Lots of times in lower grades, supplies are shared for a variety of reasons. In my first grade classroom we had tables instead of desks. Therefore, supplies like markers and crayons went into buckets that could be used by te whole table since there wasn't somewhere to store individual supplies. Even if we had desks, I probably would have done the same thing because trying to et a 6 year old to keep their supplies organized would have been a serious time sink.

When I taught 4th grade there were some things on the supply list I collected and used for the whole class. Hand sanitizer (kids will use the whole bottle in a day if kept in their desk), loose leaf paper, even pencils. The pencils were because I would have sharp ones in a bucket at te beginning of the day and kids would trade a broken/dull one for a sharp one. Then I or a student would sharpen them all in the afternoon. Again, a management choice after trying to regulate how much time was spent at the sharpener and realizing how distracting the noise is when trying to teach a lesson.

Fair enough.  I clearly don't remember much about elementary school.

  • @calikat80‌ it probably isn't! He didn't have a good body!

I love my life, my kids and my husband and I wouldn't never want to change my life but I just have thoughts sometimes as to how my life would have turned out had I married him. Maybe I dream about him because my mom asks me all the time if I hear from him. He not only was my boyfriend but my best friend before we started to "date". I also sometimes wish I still had him as a friend but I stopped dating him and stated dating dh and needless to say he never spoke to me again after that. I know he's married with a son and I'm really happy for him.

  • Dirty lurker here. I locked my child in the car on Wednesday. We were leaving the store. I put my bags in the car, and then I let her play with my keys while I buckled her in. I've gotten into this bad habit of just tossing my keys up front instead of just holding onto them. She must have clicked the lock button without me noticing because as I went to open my door after shutting hers, it was locked. I was pretty calm. The weather was very mild, and the car was in the shade.

So I called the police. The 9-1-1 operator told me to call a locksmith. I reiterated that my daughter was locked in the car, and she said she must have missed that part (??). So they put me through to the fire department. TWENTY-FIVE minutes later the fire truck showed up. By this point my daughter had lost her cool. I had been entertaining her through the window, but she was getting hot. Her little face was flushed and I could see she was sweating. She kept reaching her hand out to me to get her, and it broke my heart.

They got the door open quickly, and I got her sweaty little body out and felt like a horrible mom. All was well, but I was about to figure out a way to break the front passenger window if they didn't get there soon. I have learned my lesson about not having my keys in my hand.
