pacifier while sleeping

Hi, My LO has just started taking naps in the cribwas taking them in bouncy seat because at his 6 month appointment his dr said the sooner I did the easier it would be. To make the transition as easy as possible I let him nap in his crib with his monkey, blanket, and paci, which is what he's always napped with, but I may have confused him bc now he wants his paci when he goes to bed at night. Before this he was always able to put himself to sleep at night. And wakes up several times at night for me to put thw paci back in. He has always slept peacefully all through the night before this as well. So should I take away the paci for all sleep times? Or just continue what we're doing and stick it out? Does your LO sleep with a paci? Thoughts?

Re: pacifier while sleeping

  • DS sleeps with a paci. When he was younger, he would wake up and cry for me to put the paci back b/c he couldn't get it back into his mouth himself. Around 6 months old, we did sleep training. I would put him to bed (awake) with the paci, and but after that if it fell out, I wouldn't put it back b/c we were teaching him to put himself to sleep. He learned how to sleep without it, but he also learned how to find it and put it back himself if he really wanted it. I try to keep 2 pacifiers in the crib so that they're easier for him to find.

This.  Unless he is sick or teething we don't replace the pacifier in the middle of the night anymore.

  • Thanks so much. I will stop putting it back in at night. Yea we have to clip it to him as well. We tried the two paci thing with no clip last night and both paci's ended up on the floor.
  • We sleep trained and when I checked on her I did replace her paci but she has learned how to find it or hold on to it lol
