I've had 3, but I think 2 is pretty standard for most practices. I do plan to get an elective 3D/4D one though because I, like you, totally miss seeing the little dude...
I have Kaiser too and had a couple early US (they were a bonus as I MC'd with my last), my NT & AS and will have another US at 32 weeks (just scheduled) and then likely another at 37 weeks. Both to monitor baby's position & to clear me (or not) for vaginal delivery. This is my first so I assume this is standard with Kaiser. I would check with your NMW or OB.
Ya chances are you won't get anymore unless there's a need to check baby's size or fluid level at the end. I have kaiser as well but I'm high risk and get weekly ultrasounds so can't really say what the norm is for them. I would deff do a 4D since the kind if images you see are different than the scans kaiser would do.
In the end I will have had 7: they were/will be at 8, 12, 16, 20, 28, 32 and 36 weeks. Standard for my office is just 3, dating, NT and AS, but they scheduled me for a few more. Combined with the fact that I had a vaginal/uterine septum removed and they wanted to monitor my cervix (which has been fine so far, yay) my PAPP-A is low so they're also monitoring baby's growth.
I'm AMA so they do more than normal - I've had 5 so far (6 weeks, NT, AS, 24 weeks and one this week at 28). My next one is 32 weeks. They'll do one at 36 weeks and NST starting every week at 37 weeks, then 2 a week at 40 weeks. I had the same thing with DS1 (also AMA). I believe in a normal pregnancy most people have 2 (NT and AS). Maybe a 3rd in the beginning for dating if your OB has one in office.
I guess I shouldn't complain, this many feels like overkill to me. Those who are contemplating 3D/4D elective - they are worth it imo. My center does all 3D so we're spoiled in that we get a few 3D pics every time, but it's pretty amazing. Earlier on I do think they can look a little creepy, but toward the end you can really tell what LO might look like. With DS1, his 32 week scan looked exactly like a newborn picture of his dad - I was blown away. Sure enough, he looked like that picture at birth and does look like my DH. My second little guy has been uncooperative with the face so far though......
Re: How many ultrasounds?
My last pregnancy I had one at 40 weeks to check on baby.
