xp anyone's LO get thrush from steroid inhaler?

DD started on a steroid inhaler a few  months back and I always have her use it before brushing her teeth so I can make sure she rinses w/ water, etc. (she is 5). SHe started complaining of her throat bothering her here and there & then her mouth so I took a look and sure enough she has thrush on the back of her tongue. We got some nystatin (4 x a day for 2 weeks ugghhh) but I am wondering what others do to prevent this so I can try to not have it happen again...other than swishing w/ water, spitting, then drinking a little after using it, any other recommendations from ppl with experience?  I'm not 100% sure if probiotics work with this but she takes one daily anyway...

thanks.

  • Is she using a spacer/chamber with the inhaler?  My DD does and I wash that with warm soapy water every few weeks.  I also make sure I wash it after she is done being sick.  Also, I actually have her brush her teeth after her steroid inhaler.  Her doc told me to do that as it can effect the enamal of her teeth.  Hope she feels better soon!
