FF Moms. Give me your formula wisdom...

So, with getting AF for the second time and just a general decrease in production I'm having a hard time pumping enough for DC bottles. I've tried just about all the fixes for low supply for about 2 weeks now. I'm not giving up but I'm not going to worry about giving a little formula. I'm not having supply issues when directly BFing yet luckily. DC offers Parent's Choice formula for babies while they are there. We would be looking at about one 5 oz bottle a day of formula at the moment. Do any of you use Parent's Choice? What formula do you use and why did you choose it? Unless he had some unforseen problem with it I think I'll just tell them to give him the Parent's Choice rather than worrying about bringing him something special. What would you recommend? Is there some reason you wouldn't give the Parent's Choice?

  • I've never used Parent's Choice. With DD we used Similac Sensitive because it was the one she would drink. We tried Similac Advanced and she wouldn't drink it. She was also a gassy baby and it helped her tummy at night.

We use Similac Advanced with DS. We use it because DD did good with Similac so we wanted to try it with DS as well.

  • We used similac supplementation. I tried a small bottle of BM/formula at home before DS went to daycare the next day, just to be safe that he took it ok. U can start out doing 1 oz of formula in all your bottles and rest BM to start out with, that's what I did then it's not straight up formula in one bottle. And then eventually to like 1/2 and 1/2 with 2 bottles if u know what I mean.
I'm now actually considering switching to the target brand cause it is cheaper. I'm sure the parents choice would be fine
  • For what it's worth- We have used Sam's Club's store brand since very early on with great success. It's $22 for 48oz and our pediatrician highly recommended it and shared that it is made by Similac and actually has more DHA than brand name Similac. Because Parent's Choice is the Wal-Mart brand, I'm wondering if they are the same? The brand at Sam's is called Simply Right. Our motto is always to try the store brands and if she thrives with them, great. If not we start moving through the name brands. Hate to cultivate expensive taste right off the bat!

  • Thanks guys!  I've haven't even looked in to formula since I was BFing so I didn't know if there was some big thing about the different kinds that I wasn't aware of.

  • I am currenlty using parent's choice- its made by the same company that makes Target formula, CVS, Walgreens, Kmart and other stores as well.

Save some $$ and buy the generics wherever you can!
  • I was using Similac for Supplementing. I've never bought a can without a coupon. Now I've weaned and she's drinking more formula I'm getting through it pretty quickly. I'm out of coupons now lol so I'm looking at other options. I'm interested in this post!

  • Well, I guess we'll see how much he likes it when I go to pick him up today. I told them to mix half and half today. Yesterday he ate 18 oz (Holy Crap!) while I was gone and I only pumped 11. I think we've been unlucky enough to hit a growth spurt at the same time as a supply drop.

This is us exactly too. Does your LO go to daycare?? Daycare that DS goes to actually provides Gerber good start and I might slowly switch DS to it. It would be a money saver for sure

  • @chicki1012‌ yes she does but they don't provide formula.

I wondered if amazon was any cheaper for similac but it appears to be the same price as Walmart.

  • I have used parent's choice for DS when he was a baby. It was fine and yes, it's made by the same company that makes generic ones for other stores.

DD's daycare does provide generic brand Similac but I provide my own. For DD, I use Hipp organic and love it. It's pricey and ships from uk (4 week shipping time) so it's a pain but it was a life changer for DD's spit ups. I also like that it doesn't use corn syrup as a first ingredient. I've tasted all formula I gave DD and it's by far the most mild/less sugary tasting.
