October 2014 Moms

When to set up the nursery?

Just wondering who here has already done it and who's waiting awhile yet? I got my crib yesterday & I'm anxious to start setting up, but being due at the end of October I'm wondering if it's too soon... I guess what's giving me pause here is the "don't count your chickens before they hatch" mentality. Anyone else feel this way? Just looking for some input and/or encouragement. Thanks!

Re: When to set up the nursery?

  • I'm due at the end of October and ours is basically set up, minus some wall decor. We got the furniture on sale and I was antsy. DH's job take him out of town often, so we got everything done by 23 weeks.

    Congrats on getting your crib!!

  • Understand your thoughts, but I waited till the last month and I had to have help putting everything together.  It was more difficult and stressful.  So I would say at least get the big items put together and placed where you want.

  • I don't think it's too early.  I'm due 9/29, and I really wish I had made more progress on our nursery than we have.

With DD, I was due in early September and I spent the whole summer working on the nursery, a little at a time.  I noticed yesterday that the desk that we had our friend build for us to use as a changing table (and for DD to grow into using as a desk) is dated August 12.  That was one of the last things that went into that room aside from stuff we got at my shower, which was August 14 (I remember because it was on my parent's anniversary).  So that room was done and ready a month before DD was due.

  • I have a lot of stuff put together mostly because I don't want to be rushing around to assemble and wash things etc when I'm huge.

I also got almost everything second hand so it's been a lot of cleaning and disinfecting.

  • Ours has been a work in progress almost my entire pregnancy- now I am down to just decorating. I had the same concerns, hence the reason we call our LO 'Fetus' as her nickname. I've been pretty nervous the whole time. However, I started to do some laundry today and store some hand me downs and this belly of mine- as well as sitting on the floor to fold and organize took it's toll of me! Id definitely say it's not too early to get started :)

  • Definitely not to early. Ours is about 75% done, and I'm due at the end of the month as well. Better to get as much done as possible before you're too tired!

  • Our crib is set up, but I'm not sure I want to put anything away in our dresser as we'll just have to take it all out again when the new one comes in (first one has a messed up drawer).  So I guess we're getting there.

  • Ours is pretty much set up since we just moved DS2 out of there. We're using the same crib/furniture and keeping the walls the same color (light gray), we just need to add some girly touches (new sheets, curtains, artwork, etc.) and organize a bit. Nothing major left to do. :)

  • never too early ;-)  i'm due a day before you I guess, and we have our furniture put together.  still need to paint before we decorate.  baby shower is this weekend, so im sure we will be getting lots of decorating goodies.  I want the nursery done soon, so I can focus on other nesting needs before baby comes.

Winston is ready to have a little sister!

  • I don't think it is too early.  Our first was born at the end of October and we painted his room in early August.  I had a super hard time finding a crib so we didn't actually get one until he was 4 months old (he slept in a bassinet anyway).

  • Ours is set up, but my boys will be sharing a room so I didn't have much to do. With ds1 we moved a month before we had him and I had everything in boxes ready to be set up in his new room. After we got settled we went to put the crib together and realized it was the wrong color. All the furniture was cherry and we ordered a cherry crib (and the box said cherry) and the crib was white. I then had to wait to get a new crib ordered. It wasn't a huge deal since we planned on him sleeping in our room for a little while (which turned out to be a long while) but I still wanted it all ready when I had him.

I plan ahead because I don't like to be scrambling to get things at the end. Usually I can't move as much close to the end and don't feel like doing much.
  • I still need to get curtains but the nursery is pretty much finished. I think it's because we knew we weren't getting a baby shower.

  • I don't think it's ever too early. As long as you have the room and energy for it, I say go for it! DH didn't set up DS' crib until the day before I went into labor. Thank goodness DS waited for that to happen but that surely was a close call! Why not have everything set up if you can? That way you can take one more thing off your to-do list.

  • I haven't set anything up because my shower is in September and we are in the middle of a move.

My family is very superstitious, but I am not.

The second I can start setting up that nursery I will.

  • We got ours mostly done during the 2nd trimester because I was more comfortable. I felt nervous about it because of our previous losses but decided to try and embrace being excited and just go for it.
