Still illegal...in most states.
So is sodomy, but consent goes a long way
I'm not saying I think it's morally wrong. I'm saying it's illegal. I know someone who spent 2.5 years in jail for that. And is now registered forever.
I get that... I should have added a :P bc I was just trying to make a funny.
... but if we're gonna look at the serious side I'll also now add that a law is only as strong as its enforcement, so I'll stick with consent. I mean, as awful of a situation as that is, it only occurred bc charges were pressed, right? Statutory consent goes further than the active participants. My high school boyfriend was lucky that my parents realized the future implications that pressing charges would have on him. They were outraged that we were having sex (I was 17, he was 20), but looked at the bigger picture.
Interestingly enough, no. Girl and boy both consented. Teen's parents didn't want to press charges. School found out and it spiraled from there.
How long ago was that? I only ask because I usually think of Kansas as pretty slow to come around to things that are "new and progressive" and we have laws that prevent that. That's just crazy that a judge would screw up a kids life over that.
minors can't give legal consent (with very limited exceptions, none of which include consenting to sex) that's the point of statutory age provisions.
the phrase "pressing charges" kind of gives off a false sense of choice. if a family makes a police report, it follows that an investigation would be made and charges may be brought. but there are other ways a 16/18 year old couple could get caught besides by their families.

When I was a young'in, all of my crushes were adults. So if this thread will somehow allow me to go back in time and get it on with Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block, then I'm changing my vote. 11 year old me totally dug him and his rat tail.
I'm with the folks on page 1 that it's a situational thing. But something tells me this isn't one of those times that it is okay.
Here's my ffc, might as well share it now. I married my husband when I was 17 and he was 23. We've been married for 8 years now. He's a family friend though and I've known him for a long time. I realize my situation is nowhere near the norm, but I felt guilty keeping it in :P. lol

Man, after a busy morning I FINALLY check N14 and see this three-page thread on a controversial topic and I'm all...
And then it's all...
I can't vote without knowing more details from the OP (because TB polls = integrity, ya know?), but I will add my own confession.
When I was 21, I was dating a 17 year old. I won't even go into my own issues that made me think that was a good idea (I justified it because we met at a bar -- he was in a band so they let him in to play). He had a tumultuous relationship with his parents (who were very nice people) and was living at his band's practice space, so I took him in... for like six months clothed him, fed him, encouraged his goals in life, made sure he got a good job and had a bright future, helped repair the relationship with his parents (they LOVED me). And then one day I was in debt and all, "WTF am I doing raising a teenager?"
So, yeah, I totally sent him (and the guinea pig I bought him) back home to mommy and daddy. And, from what I hear, he's doing really well. Yeah, you're welcome!

@Wildflower810 - Was making a joke that I always though "dating" was synonymous for "boning." I'm sure there are plenty of people that date without having sex, though.

When I was 16 I was dating a 20 year old and got pregnant. I lied to my parents that he 17. It passed because he had that baby face going on. Now that's it been 5 years since that happen my parents still dnt kno that he's 4 years older than me. Plus I have not talked to him since before my daughter was born.

I don't find you annoying in the least. Filing a report is not synonymous with pressing charges. Okay, kind of like dating is not synonymous with having sex (even if that's the direction this turned). Ah, semantics. I never said that parents were the only other parties that would seek enforcement of the law, though. I'll easily give another example: my high school boyfriend was lucky when we got caught having sex in public when the security guard just told us to scram instead of filing a report...
