Another feeding question

So I know we've talked a lot about solids lately but I have a question I don't think has been addressed.

We have done all the stage 1 purees and are starting stage 2. I would like to feed DD more of what we are eating. We do occasionally give her very small bits of what we're eating, like too small for her to even pick up, we just put it in her mouth. I've been told by several people to just purée what we eat and give it to her.

So for moms who have done this before, do I just take some chicken, green beans, and rice and throw it in the food processor? That does not sound at all appealing but I guess it isn't much different than what she gets in a jar.

Re: Another feeding question

  • I'd purée them together bc chicken alone will be a strange taste to LO. My DD gagged when I tried that, so I added carrots. I "dress up" kale with carrots, too. It makes it sweeter and more tolerable.

  • DD does not care for meat in any way, shape or form, so I puree the meats and mix them with other pureed veggies that she likes. I don't see what is wrong with how you were feeding her before, though, so keep doing what you are doing if your LO likes it. Or try the purees, too. As long as your LO likes it, then it doesn't matter, IMO
  • Thanks for the input. Im hoping to find a cheaper option than buying lots of tubs of purees but didn't really want to spend a bunch of time steaming and puréeing food just for her.
  • We steam and pree in batches and freeze them in special ice cube trays. Then we mix and match a few cubes and thaw/ warm in a bag in warm water just like BM. Much cheaper and I can buy/make in bulk.
  • One of my baby food cookbooks recommends mixing chicken with sweet root veggies or fruits to make it tastier for babies.

I took some leftover grilled chicken from our adult dinner and threw it in the food processor with pre-made (homemade) sweet potato puree.  It looks kinda gross, but then so does most baby food.  :)  LO loved it.

  • I have pureed chicken that DS hated by itself. The chicken was juicy, but I think it was still a little dry for him. I looked up the Gerber foods with chicken and made my own. He loves chicken and apples and chicken and carrots. I freeze my purees in ice cube trays and give him 1 cube of chicken, 2 of the fruit/veggie.

  • I may be in the minority, but if your LO is eating the foods you're giving her (small bits) then I would just continue to do that since soon you'll be stopping purées and giving her "real food" anyway.
