I know that it isn't Thursday, but I feel particularly compelled to write about how thankful I am today rather than b!tch about something in a pity party.
Today, I am thankful for many things:
- I am thankful that my friends and family members that live in the path of Irene are all ok with no damage to their places.
- I am thankful for the fact that my house is still standing with no damage at all after Irene made landfall about 30 miles from here. I live on an island on the water and am truly amazed that we had no flooding, water damage or trees that came down on our house. DH and I will be cleaning up our yard for a while because of downed branches and leaves everywhere, but that is nothing compared to what it could have been.
- I am thankful that I am not due during hurricane season. DH is military and has to evacuate for all storms that head this way. He has been gone since last Wed and I have no idea when he will be home. I am incredibly grateful that I am not stressed worrying about him being gone and me going into labor without him.
- I am thankful that my town is one of the only towns in my county or in the surrounding counties that has electricity up and running again. They reopened my town yesterday and I was able to return home.
- I am thankful for my amazing neighbors that came over yesterday to clear all of the big branches from my front yard so that I didn't have them blocking the driveway or have to move them while 7 months pregnant.
- (this one is pretty fluffy!). I am thankful that I was able to evacuate to a city where I was able to take advantage of the fantastic Motherhood/Destination Maternity/Pea in the Pod sale this weekend. I got a shirt and yoga pants for $25! I live in the middle of nowhere, so it is nice to have the opportunity to go to civilization and shop every now and then.
- I am thankful that I was able to evacuate to a pet friendly hotel so I didn't have to leave my dog behind in a pet shelter for the storm. She is a rescue with bad separation anxiety, and I don't know how well she would have fared if I had not been able to keep her with me. I am also thankful that I was able to stay in a hotel with creature comforts and not in a shelter in a school gym somewhere.
Re: Thankful Monday
I am also thankful that no trees fell on our house during Irene. We had several down in the yard, but none on the house.
I'm also thankful that we did not come home to any broken pipes on Saturday. We were on vacation last week, and I was worried that this might have happened as a result of the earthquake. What a mess that would have been after 4 days!
I'm also thankful that we had a wonderful and relaxing vacation, with great weather almost every day!!
Glad everything worked out for you turtlewifey. I live in the midwest, nowhere near Irene, but I was still thankful that the hurricane only ended up being a category 1 instead of category 4 like they were predicting.
I am thankful that I had a wonderful birthday weekend with beautiful weather.
I am thankful that I was able to take advantage of BRU's trade-in event and got 25% off my crib!
(And personally, I like thankful Mondays better than PityParty B****Fest)
Aack, this turned into the longest post and run ever! I have been so busy over the past few days cleaing up the yard and house that I haven't had time for bumping. Thanks for the well wishes MrsCaddy and 909. It is such a relief to be home again with friends and family all safe, and to not have any major damage.
Since it is Thursday, maybe this now become a Thankful Thursday thread.
