Can't sleep...

Its been 10 days of be waking up nearly an hour after I fall asleep being up for a while then sleeping about an hour or two and repeat through the night. I can't take it anymore. I feel like an insomniac and it's making me very grouchy during the day. Does anyone have a tips for getting some better sleep. Last night my husband gave me a massage thinking that would help, I have tried a warm shower and even sex (which usually helps me sleep). I Dont know if I can take this much longer but it is really taking a toll on me physically and especially on my personality.

Re: Can't sleep...

  • Cyber hugs @erinchristine424 !!!! I can't sleep either & it's rough. Are you taking any supplements, herbs, etc?

  • Is anything in particular waking you up? Leg and back aches wake me up. Usually if I reposition my pillows that'll get me back to dream land (between the legs, along my back, under my neck like a travel pillow). If that doesn't work, I'll go into another room (living room) prop myself up and read a few pages in my book. The distraction knocks me out... Usually. :)

  • I wear compression leggings to help keep the calf cramps from waking me up, and sometimes I go sit in a warm bath (but then I fall asleep in the tub). Benadryl might help. I also read boring books and do crosswords to lull my brain into quietness.

  • I am right there with you! I just told my husband I can't carry on like this for the next 9 weeks. Nothing has helped me so far, but I have only tried pillow positioning and staying up later hoping it would make me more tired. When I lay on my right baby girl does some crazy business in my rib cage. Left side kicking or BH wake me. I feel bad my DH is suffering too, we were both up for the day at 0420. Let me know if you find something that works.

Same here. For the last month I've had issues sleeping at night. I think it has a lot to do with not being able to shut my mind off. I've been on bedrest since Wed and it definitely has not made it any easier sleeping since I do absolutely nothing during the day to wear me out. Im not even able to take a nap during the day, so I'm wondering how I am even functioning. You're not alone. Prayers we find relief soon.

  • Not alone! Ive been like this since the start of the third tri and im 32 weeks today. The repositioning helps short term and then im awake again due to being uncomfortable again. I also have tried everything. Most recently (probably thanks to relaxin), a shoulder that i had surgery on 7 years ago is really bothering me when i sleep on that side. Ive just kind of accepted this as part of the journey.
  • @emmojess no I an not on any supplements or herbs. Just Folic Acid and B12 that I am on all the time.
@crawford411‌ I have tried benedryl it works sometimes but it hasn't lately. It worked during my 2nd trip like a champ tho.

  • I hear you! I've started moving to the guest bedroom if I feel like the night is off to a bad start. Between not being able to find a comfortable position and then dealing with what seems like RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), I'm CONSTANTLY shifting and moving. And then after a while I get anxiety because I can't fall asleep and then I REALLY can't sleep.

  • I got a straight 7 hours two nights in a row this weekend --I can't remember the last time that happened!! Normally what I do though is sleep in my mommy boppy in bed on my side. If I wake up and can't get back to sleep I go to the guest room where there's lots of pillows and lay on my back. It sucks because it happens to all of us and it's not because we aren't doing something right--it's just.......pregnancy!
  • I also started sleeping in the guest room. I realized all of the flipping and flopping I do all night keeps me stressed out so I have a hard time sleeping because I am concerned about waking my husband up. I do so much better sleeping in the other room!

  • I'm in the same boat! I fall asleep easily, but then wake up about an hour later and stay awake for an hour or more. And then asleep for an hour, up for an hour or more...repeat.

  • I'll wake up because of being sore, having to pee, or just simply can't sleep. Then a few hours into the morning I feel like I can't keep my eyes open. I have been moving to the couch hoping that helps since we don't have a guest bedroom unfortunately. I feel bad for my husband since my rough nights cause him rough nights like pp said idk if I can do this 9 more weeks. 3rd tri has really been kicking my butt this time around unlike the first time but that was 4 years ago when I was 20 maybe the age has something to do with it as well.

  • Same boat.  Dh and I go to bed about 11 (thankfully, this is his last week on days for the summer and I get my bed back to myself at night).  I'm up by 12:30 to pee and roll over.  If I don't fall asleep right away, then to the couch or recliner I go until about 4:30-5:00ish, waking at least once more during that time to pee again.  Then back to bed in time for dh's alarm to go off at 5:30 and lo comes in our room about 6ish until about 6:45 when we get up.  Lo has also been getting up at least once about every other night, I'm hoping that this will quit too once dh is back on nights (or at least he can deal with it and not me ;))

  • I'm in the same boat...Nothing helps. I've had problems with insomnia my entire pregnancy, but the last few weeks it has gotten so much worse. I fell asleep at my desk just before noon today and had to go take a nap because I physically couldn't keep my eyes open... luckily I have the flexibility to do that. If I worked at a normal job I don't know how i would be functioning.

If you find something that works, let me know!

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I've all of a sudden become a super light sleeper and everything wakes me up. The urge to pee, the cat walking around, a tiny bit of light coming in through the blackout curtains, etc.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my OB so I'm going to ask her for any tips. I take a bath in the evenings because it always relaxes me after teaching all day and usually helps me get ready for bed. I usually read in bed until I feel tired...it's just hard to shut my brain off right now since I'm off anxiety meds.

Hopefully we can get some relief soon! :)
