I know it's only August, and we have until October/ November before these babies are born. However, I'm wondering how many of you are "ready"? I feel like we have so much left to do..
Not even close. Our nursery is completely filled with boxes from our move and we have only bought one thing. DH didn't want to get anything till we moved. We have 1 cradle, 1 crib, and 1 car seat. The swing we had with dd died so we need a new one.
Definitely not ready. We have a crib but no crib mattress, the baby's room has been painted but has no blinds or light fixture, and the baby wouldn't really have anything to wear.
My shower is September 21 so I will be a little more ready after that, but we'll still have a few things to get.
Nope. I have the room painted, but that's about it. I still need another dresser for DD so I can paint the baby one we have and move it, along with the changing table. I have some clothes, but nowhere near what we need. I really do need to get a move on!
I'm really eager to meet my baby, but I still have a ton of shit to do. H has tomorrow off and will be working on some home improvement projects for the nursery. In all honesty, all we really NEED is to put the crib together and get some diapers and wipes. But I have 12,000 things on my to-do list to give me peace of mind.

We have the crib, and dresser. Room is painted and bedding is being shipped sometime this week (etsy), and a few clothes- 2 boxes of diapers but that's it! Shower is 9/20 so hopefully after that I'll be able to figure out what I need still! I'm not sure why I'm so stressed out!!
Everyone keeps tell me it is coming so quickly, but I still feel like November is ages away. Of course, this is also my third kid, so I feel pretty prepared at this point. I have everything I need in the basement, just need to bring it up and wash it when the time comes.
I feel more ready this time because it's our second and we already have everything we need (besides diapers), but I still have a lot to do. I'd like to freeze some meal in the next month and I also need to go through DD's clothes and wash the ones that will work for this LO. We need to dig out the swing, rocker and bassinets as well.
Not at all. Furniture is up and room painted but that's it. Waiting until after my shower to buy much. Someone bought me a pack of diapers today, so there's that plus the one onesie gift I got lol.
We have most of the stuff we need already, but unless we plan to strap this kid to the roof of the car, we really need to get a minivan so that the whole family will fit.
We are 95% there... But only because I've been high risk and have a "very good change of him falling out of me any moment" (per my doc) due to incompetent cervix. So .. Like it or not.. We had to get everything ready much sooner than we would have .. Had the urgency not of been there. Of course if he is born early .. He'll likely have some NICU time but I'm sure the last thing I'll want to do is shop/decorate the nursery if I know he's in the NICU.. So we got it done now. Just need a few more sleepers, receiving blankets and my pump (which hospital gives me upon delivery) & we are all set. Hospital bag is in the car & carseat is ready... But praying we don't need to use it for another 8-10 weeks.
I have a lot of essentials. Co-sleeper, car seat, stroller, CDs, carrier, some clothes... I also have the monitor, breast pump and crib in our shed. So I could get ready pretty quickly if necessary.
But... I still am looking forward to the next 3+ months to make space for the new baby... and to get rid of a lot of crap... and to do some deep cleaning... all that kind of stuff.
If she came today I would be 80% ready. I have most if everything I want for the baby minus clothes. It think I only have 1 sleeper. But we could make due
FML. Nope. Buying crib and dresser next weekend. Baby shower is October 4th. Hoping to have the essentials by the end of the month. Everyone keeps telling me Not to buy anything until the shower is over but that seems like so far away.
We start moving into our new house this weekend. We're ready in the sense that I have boobs & our hospital gave us a sample newborn diaper (so tiny!). We have 3(!!!!) baby showers being planned for us - not my choice; I know it's excessive! So I'm assuming everything will be sorted through that (otherwise we'll at least be given heaps of advice about what to do in the last few weeks, right?)
We haven't done ANYTHING. I have like, 6 outfits. We don't have any baby stuff at all. My husband keeps saying it's too early. We need to start getting stuff though.
Nope. My crib and everything else for the nursery isn't going to be here until the end of the month. I have a lot of "cute" clothes but no sleepers. No diapers. No bedding for the bassinet. I know logically theres a lot of time but holy it's creeping up quickly.
Nope. And I may have to karaoke chop anyone who is completely ready!
I must learn this karaoke chop you speak of. :-)
AFM: honestly, I feel pretty ready. I wanted to get everything done early because twins come early (and even if they stay in, I didn't think I'd feel like doing much in the third tri). Everything we still need to get could be purchased in a quick trip to Target. Most of them are just small odds and ends (clothes, sheets) I didn't want to purchase before my baby showers.
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
TTC since 2011
Aug. - Sept. 2013 - dIUIs = BFNs
January 2014 - IVF = 3 freezer babies
March 2014 - FET of AA and AB blast = BFP! Twins!
Nov. 7, 2014 - Wilhelmina "Willa" Suzanne (4lb 14oz) and Ari Jose (6lb 4oz) were born via CS
I started laughing like an insane person when I read this. Noooo. Because we are giant idiots and decided to have a wedding reception end of August after eloping this may. For some reason thought planning this would feel different than a wedding but guess what?? It feels pretty dang similar! I'm giving myself no pressure until after that's done. I have a stroller, a unfinished dresser and one fleece onesie.
I think we almost are. Because this LO and DS are so close in age we have almost everything we need.
My BFF brought me a ton of baby girl clothes this weekend along with her girls crib (they co slept) so all we need is a mattress. Her nursery is set up and she will reuse all the other big ticket items from DS (car seat, bassinet, video monitor, etc).
Mentally is a whole different story. I don't think I'll ever be ready for 2u2.
I know it's only August, and we have until October/ November before these babies are born. However, I'm wondering how many of you are "ready"? I feel like we have so much left to do..
And December too for many women. Rumor has it that Nov 28th us a popular EDD and many people will likely go late ;-)
Nope. And I may have to karaoke chop anyone who is completely ready!
I know that this is likely an autocorrect issue, but this made me giggle big time...
Oh, hahaha! I didn't even catch that. I read it as "karate chop."
To answer OP's question, if a baby showed up on my doorstep, I would be well-equipped to take care of it (except for diapers). The bassinet and swing are set up and we have all the clothes we need. Am I mentally or emotionally ready? No. I definitely need a few more months to purge things/clean/mentally prepare.

It's beautiful. It's a roundhouse kick to the head whilst warbling "I-eee-I will allllways love you." Best accomplished drunk.

See, this is why I'm not feeling pressure to get ready. This baby is coming just after Christmas, right?
Oh hell no. The room is painted, but only because we're not repainting. All the guest room furniture is still in there and we're waiting for a god time to have family over to help us move it.
I have a few sleepers and baby books, and our crib mattress arrived, but that's it. The crib is on its way. I know we got our travel system, but we won't see that until our shower on September 14.
This is #2 so I could be ready - I have everything from DS that we'd need. Plus, I'm mentally ready for it to be November. But I don't have anything done in the nursery, at all. So in that way, no, I'm far from ready.
Like PPs, we'd be just fine, as in the baby's needs would certainly be met, but we are still far from prepared. The nursery isn't finished by any stretch of the imagination, but we do have a co-sleeper and some sleep sacks ready. Mentally and emotionally I'm not sure we'll ever be ready. We'll adapt, no doubt, but we're still wrapping our heads around the general idea! I think the shower will help... :-/ ... or completely freak us out. Eh, either way.
We're getting there. Crib and mattress showed up on Friday (thanks to FIL) and were assembled on Saturday. Nursery is painted and dresser obtained off Craigslist. Have the car seat (thanks to MIL). But I have no diapers, no bedding, and all the clothes I have are 3mo+. Shower is Sept. 13 so sometime after that I'll just be going down my registry and clicking "add to cart".
I'm a teacher so I'm freaking out more about finding a maternity leave sub. My admins seem to be in denial that I'll be gone for 12 weeks and have not even approached me to discuss it. They haven't had to hire a maternity sub in 6 years (small school, mostly men and older women). I want someone who can teach, damnit! Not a warm body there to make some easy cash.
Oh, and sub plans. Those are freaking me out.
Baby girl N born 10/29/14!
**Follow your heart, but take your brain with you**
Yes and no. The baby's room is half ready, we have a crib but it's not put together yet, we have a car seat but it's not installed, we have some clothes and swaddle wraps but they're not washed. As far as other necessities we'd need diapers/wipes and something to change the baby on, but otherwise we could get things together enough to get by. My shower is Sept 6th so after that we should be good to go! I definitely don't want to meet this baby any time soon though, I'm still liking being pregnant and it's way too early!
TTC since Sept 2011, Unexplained IF Oct 12 - Jan 14: 3 clomid/TI cycles, 2 hysteroscopies, 2 IUIs, 1 BFP (MMC @ 12w), 2 more IUIs Feb 14: Gonal-f + IUI #5 = BFP! (EDD 11/4/14) Baby boy arrived 11/13/14!
This thread gives me anxiety as well! I just gave birth last year (DD is 17 mos) so technically I am ready with stuff but not really ready for a second child...
Bassinet is set up in our room because we never took it down even though DD started sleeping in her own crib in the nursery at 3 mos (I've been using the bassinet somewhat as a coffee table / where to put my pile of clothes instead of hanging them in the closet.) Bassinet needs new sheets
We REALLY need to decide on furniture for this new LO. An armoire, a dresser and a crib!!
We have a stroller and car set but we need the attachments for the stroller to convert it into a double!
I need to get the swing, play mat and all of the baby clothes out of storage. The clothes by the way, are not sorted at all and there are like 4 garbage bags full!
I haven't found a maternity / new born photographer!
I haven't done any paper work for my maternity leave nor my replacement.
I need all the breastfeeding supplies and accessories except for the pump already got that.
I need to research on if I need to get new nipples for bottles or not.
We need to sign up for our baby care and feeding class
We need to get a bigger car... looked a beautiful Nissan Pathfinder with 3 rows and while they were doing the paperwork for our trade in I tried to fit the stroller in the trunk... it didn't fit!!! WTH!!?? FML! The search continues!
We need to clean out our dining room which we have been using as storage!!
Need to pack my hospital bag (don't plan on doing that till late Oct)
The big one is we still need to find a day care/ nursery school for DD for when I go back to work in March! We've only visited one so far and need to visit more and make a decision so they can save her a spot for the Spring!
And I'm sure there is stuff I forgot but in the meantime these are my short term goals: - Go buy some flats during lunch because my pelvis is killing me and I can't wear my heels any more. - Plan a spa day in Napa for Labor Day weekend when we fly cross country to SF! - Enjoy the start of football season! - Enjoy the rest of the summer with my family!
EDIT: WOAH that was a lot longer than I anticipated.. yikes!!
