Mom's who are on #3 or more...

Question for moms that are on their 3rd+ pregnancy (I know there are a few of us here...)

My doctor said something in passing that I found interesting.  I told her I felt like my body wasn't really doing much to gear up for labor and she said that it was common the more pregnancies you have the less you notice things like BH contractions or prodromal labor.  Combination of being busier with other kids at home, and just being used to what's "normal" for pregnancy causes you to brush off things you may have been hyper-sensitive to the first couple of times.

I'm wondering if any of you are finding any truth to that theory as we hit the end of our pregnancies?

  • Funny.  I've been having tons more BH this time than my other two combined.  My midwife said that's common in 3rd pregnancies.  Sometimes I think they just tell us what they think we need to hear.

  • This is #4 and as with #3 I have had way more noticeable things.

I think you are more aware of the pains and such because you have felt them before, but with a first time mom, it might be chalked up to not knowing.

  • Mines been total opposite! I had no noticeable contractions with my first two, but have had tons for the last two weeks with this one. I hate it, I keep hoping things are starting and then....nothing. I'm due today and doesn't look like I'll be having a baby today at this point.:-(

  • I just had #3 on the 28th.  I noticed a lot more cramping and early contractions leading up to labor than with either of my previous pregnancies.  With each pregnancy I felt more "signs" before labor.

  • See you all are saying what I kind of thought already, I should notice MORE not less, because I know what labor does, feels like, etc....

I feel like my Dr. was just trying to make me feel better, which I can appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not that kind of person.  Just be direct with me.  If I'm not feeling anything, then there probably isn't anything.

She's giving me a Bishops score next week just to help my sheer curiosity as to where I'm at.  I'm pretty sure if I'm not at least dilated to a 1, I'll cry.  I'm also pretty sure I'm not dilated at all.

  • Total opposite. I had prodromal labor starting at 37 weeks. Mostly at night, and would last for 2-3 hours.

And be prepared for the uterine contractions after birth if you are nursing. Holy shit balls they were painful. I took the pain meds just for that!

Hang in there. You will know when it starts ;)

Oh my gosh yes!  They get more painful with each baby.  I barely noticed them with #1...this time around they were really bad.

  • Holy crap, I've had the exact opposite. With my first I thought it was falling down a flight of stairs that started the prodomal labor. But I had the same thing with my second the last two weeks, and this one for the last 5 (and still counting) weeks. I think the cramping is much worse, too.

Oh yes!! The contractions had me sobbing! Thank God I'll never deal with those again!
I was told that nursing contractions get worse the more kids you have. That was true for me.

I also never had BH contractions that were noticeable until this pregnancy.  My midwife also said #3 pregnancy it's common to start having them more often. Ugh.

  • I feel just as in the dark with #3 as I did with 1&2. It's very irritating. I just want this baby out. I've tried to get things going and was for sure after being dialated 4 and completely thinned out plus a membrane sweep I would have went into labor by now but nothing. I'm barely having any BH's. I'm sure Thursday I will be induced but gaww I just wanted her to come on her own...hey tonight's a full moon though.
