That probably sounds like a weird question, but I just recently learned from a midwife that there are several different methods for calculating your due date. Having a due date you are comfortable with is so much more important for a natural birth in order to avoid getting induced. So from what I gather, most non traditional methods, such as Wood's, takes into account any cycle days shorter or longer than 28 (+1 for me) and adds days for first babies.
I am FTM at 14 weeks. LMP 5/1/14. Cycles are 29 days. Ovulation on CD 16.
Based on the 40 weeks (280 days) standard EDD is 2-5-15
Based on Naegele's rule, my EDD is 2-8-15.
Based on Wood's method "Nicol's Rule", my EDD is 2-16-15.
I am asking because I find it interesting that I could give birth 2-16-15 and be considered 11 days late for an OB (who likely would have pushed induction at the 41 week mark), but perfectly on time for another calculation method. What are your thoughts? Anyone using one of the other methods?
Re: How are you calculating your due date?
My Ovulation Chart
As a surrogate I use the transfer date + 5 days (so the date of the egg retrieval).
GSx1 - 05/13/2013
GSx2 for T&B - EDD 6/21/2015 - They're having a GIRL!
My midwife wrote down the 11th and when i mentioned the difference she said oh we get to see you sometime in Feb.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
With my first transfer (due to a move), the new office totally disregarded the u/s data, which I thought was strange... like the data didn't come from their office, so it couldn't be trusted.
Strange #1) they said they didn't change a due date unless there was at least a week's difference. I suggested they consult a calendar to see that it was, in fact, a full week's difference. After that, I think they probably wrote "difficult patient" in my file.
Strange #2) They wanted to schedule my RCS before my due date so I wouldn't go into labor (totally normal for RCS scheduling). So wouldn't they want to take into account the earlier due date?!?
Strange #3) I wasn't even sure why I cared, since I wanted the extra week for LO to cook before being evicted. But I hated feeling like I had something tangible to add that was being ignored. No one likes being ignored when it comes to their own health.
All that is beside the point, because my new OB (at 37w) said he will allow me to go 7-10 days past my due date to try for a VTOL (which he easily accepted as the dating u/s date over the LMP date). So after all the drama, I pretty much have the exact same deadline for this sweet thing to vacate her spot before I need an induction/RCS.
Since the OP was more speaking to charting/temping...I think charting/temping alone is not as clear-cut for an OB to use. (Not that it should be that way.... just that it seems to be more anecdotal than quantitative.) Perhaps a MW would be more willing to incorporate that into a due date calculation.
GL!
I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and I think sitting here thinking about being pregnant is a lot more interesting than, oh, just about anything else going on right now. I will try to be a little more concise.
