No I am not having twins!!

I have to vent for a second, I am having trouble with the weight gain. It is hard to deal with gaining weight for anyone. I am almost 32 weeks and have gained 24 pounds. However I still exercsie and eat fairly healthy. But one question that drives me CRAZY....are you having twins??? I mean come on. My belly is still pretty high so it does look bigger, but I know it doesnt look like twins. I am a twin and so is my husband if i was 32 weeks pregnant with twins I would be much bigger! People are so rude. I also hate the "your going to have a 10 pound baby" I mean I dont even think I am that big...Anyone else getting these?

  • Yup. Constantly. From my own mother. I'm short and have a very short torso, plus baby #2 so things are just pre-stretched. I've gained a few more pounds this time and yes I look big, but stop freaking asking!

I've noticed that nobody is saying the normal 'you look great' this time, they just ask questioningly how many weeks I have to go... Jerks!
  • Ew wtf! 24 lbs is totally normal!

  • I get that question too and I have only gained 12lbs (thanks to gestational diabetes so not bragging) so some people are just rude.

I am certain you look amazing and as long as your doctor is cool and LO is growing like they should then you are golden.

  • Sorry man.  That sucks.  I'll never understand why the mere fact that someone is pregnant makes all social norms fly out the window, and suddenly makes it fine for people to make comments about a person's body shape or weight or any of that.  Drives me up the wall.

I realized yesterday that I've reached a point where any comment about how I look makes me cringe.  I saw one of MIL's co-workers yesterday who I hadn't seen yet during this pregnancy, and I heard her say to DH and MIL as I was walking away "she doesn't have a big baby bump at all for nearing the end."  In a prior life, that wouldn't have phased me at all, it wasn't judgmental or mean at all, but for some reason I saw red yesterday.  When I came back, to my face, she said "You look beautiful!  My daughter isn't due til November and she's way bigger than you."  Again, it wouldn't have even phased me before, but I just cringed and said "um, thanks."

I think I'm just emotionally and physically drained lately, and I can't deal with much.

  • Right there with you! I had a woman next to me on a plane today say "Are you sure there's only one in there?"
I wanted to slap her! No I don't have a clue what do you think?!?? Ugh
  • Wednesday I had the cashier at target tell me I was huge and must be having twins if I wasn't due until October. I seriously considered complaining to her manager. It's just rude and uncalled for. I am well aware of my hugeness, thanks.

It bothered me enough that I told my doctor yesterday when I was there and he assured me he's positive there is only one in there and my weight gain is fine.

  • I had twins before this PG and everyone asks with a crazy look in their eye "its not twins again??" Its amazing the food vomit that comes out of some people. hang in there.
  • I get that all the time. It's annoying but I try not to get upset. Most people don't have a frame of reference for how big you should look at each stage of your pregnancy. That's why the HDBD is good thing, it's nice to see a bunch of other women that look just like you.

  • Yup. Very similar comments. Something must have changed this week or last night because i got 10 seriously 10 of these today from people who see me Tuesday thru Friday every week!!
  • Yes. People are stupid. It doesn't matter how much or how little you gain weight wise, your belly is going to grow.
  • I've gotten the twins comments with every pregnancy so far. My favorite though was after my DS was born (he was in the shopping cart-- in his infant carrier) and the cashier at Target asked me when I was due.... It was less than 2 months after having him. That was awesome for sure.

  • It sounds like we are the same size and I have been getting that constantly too, mostly from older women.  I was in the grocery store last week and this woman just wouldn't let up about how it must be twins, was I sure I wasn't due today blah blah.  Then she said "I was never that big when I was pregnant!" to which I replied sweetly "Well that must have been a VERY long time ago so I expect it's hard to remember," and walked off.  I felt a bit guilty because I am not usually rude to strangers but it felt good too :)

    ....YES!

  • So I was way over weight to begin with, and lost at least 15lbs in the first trimester, so I'm still not back up to my original pre- pregnancy weight (thank God), but my belly is huge ... I have people say "oh you're pregnant!?!" IMO that is even worse because they just thought I was fat... Then today I had someone at work say "oh you're really not that big" Ugh. Yes, yes I am. I understand at work is usually because my work uniform is really baggy, but if I'm not in my work clothes is super obvious I'm pregnant. Why do people have to comment at all!?

I have a coworker that I'm sort of friends with that asks me how the twins are every time I see her (I'm
not having twins). I told her I might punch her one of these days. I seriously don't get why some people think it's so hilarious to ask every day! STFU!
  • I have such mixed opinions, majority of people say 'your bumps so neat/tidy' or 'you haven't put weight on anywhere else' then I get the odd one that says 'wow your so big for 6 months'

In work recently (I'm a nurse) a relative asked when I was due, I said October and she said 'are you sure it's not sooner? Your massive! Are you sure your not having twins?' ... Yes I'm sure thank you very much you rude woman! Turns out she has no children so probably wouldn't have the first idea about pregnancy but it was a bit hurtful!
  • It actually happened to me twice yesterday, and by different people at different places. I am finding it difficult to still be nice and laugh it off. I really just want to say how rude they are. I have mixed things too I hear oh wow your just belly and you look so good, and then hear "you must be having twins..." Come one October 8th. I am not a mean person but lately its becoming difficult!

  • 24 pounds is nothing!!! I have gained 25 pounds as well, and I'm only 28 weeks.  I hate that people are so insensitive and rude at a time when you are the most sensitive and emotional.  Would they go up to a non-pregnant woman and say "omg you're huge!!" or "your belly is so big!!" No! So why say it to a pregnant woman.  We want to be told we're adorable and that they can barely tell we're pregnant, even if that's not the truth, haha. People are idiots.
  • I love the "that's going to be a big baby" comment. I am short there is nowhere else for him to go LOL. Hang in there ladies -only a couple of more months of these ridiculous comments.

  • I'm 30 weeks and I've gained 32 pounds (fail!) and my baby is only in the %15 and I always here "oh you're gonna have a huge baby" and I'm just like actually my baby's on the littler side and now I feel like crap for being big thank you!
  • Walmart checker: oh wow, you're having triplets?! I'd shoot myself. I mean, gosh, that's going to suck.
    Me: excuse me?!
Walmart checker: I bet your husband hates this. My boyfriend would probably leave me!
Me: are you fucking kidding me? Well, I'd probably shoot myself if I worked at Walmart and had a such a shitty boyfriend like yours. So let's both be glad that you're you and I'm me.

Reason # 3,456 why I hate Walmart. The checkers are from another planet.
