Darn it, why did I even bother?!?!

Hi ladies, I know I'm not normally much of a discussion starter... More just random participation, but I really needed someplace to vent! I will try to make it brief. So, DH and I FINALLY agreed on a boys name and he agreed to let me pick whatever middle name I wanted. So I messaged my brother and gave him the first name with the 3 middle name choices, to which he responds "You need to stop making up names you sound like a douchey hipster"... We exchange a few more texts, and then I stop messaging him.

THEN about an hour ago I get on FB and see that he posted a poll as his status "On a scale from 1-10 how much does the name XXXXX suck? 10 being kill it now". So I guess I learned my lesson this time: don't share your baby name until the baby is born!

P.S. Sorry I don't have the guts to share it on here. I don't think I can take anymore name rejection tonight!!!

  • What a doucher! I'm sorry.
  • Haha 23 actually... believe it or not.
My brother was the worst at that age. They think they know everything and they act like they're all grown up, but they're really just man children.
Yeah, he is definitely still pretty immature for 23... I don't really care as much that he doesn't like the name.... More that he decided to post on FB about it without telling me first.

  • Screw him! Don't ever be ashamed of the name you picked & love. Not everyone's gonna like it but who cares? Be proud of the name you picked. I haven't had to deal with that but the name I chose for my son is Bentley and ever time I tell someone they ask "like the car" and give a look like who do I think I am naming my child after that car. People are so ignorant and don't care about people's feelings. They don't know why you chose it and it could be something so close to your heart and their comment just upset you. Seriously don't let him get to you or make you change the name you love.
  • What spurp13 said! I must say that I'm really curious about the name now.

  • Daxon is a cute name! I haven't heard it before, but that just makes it more unique -which is awesome. My DS has a very uncommon name, but once people get used to it, they tend to love it, and it fits him. I vote Daxon Joel.

  • Wow, your brother is a massive douche. What are the names? Maybe we can be less douchey? No promises though. Not sure if you've seen our other name threads ;)
Alright screw it... DH said just put it up. Try not to make me cry too much more!

We have a very common last name that starts with R. The first name we chose is: Daxon. The middle names that I narrowed it down to are: Joel, Wesley, and Rhys. I also contemplated doing "Dax" not "Daxon", but then we need a 3+ syllable boys middle name and the only ones I could come up with were too weird or didn't fit with the first/last name.
Why would you NEED a 3+ syllable middle name? I don't get that part.

Did he just hate the middle names or what? Dax or Daxon aren't my style or anything, but they are certainly not awful. I like Dax a bit better. A lot, really, but it's just not my style for my kid--we like traditional older names (Goign with Audrey for our baby, I think, and I liked Henry for a boy). And Joel and Wesley for middle names are not really uncommon names at all. Rhys is weird because I'm not sure how to pronounce it, so that might be a struggle his whole life. But ALL of those things said, seriously. The names are not absurd or anything.

In case you wanted my honest opinion. Which, you know, who cares. I'm a stranger.

"Kill It Now" is a bit harsh.

    Post this on Facebook:

On a scale of "He's Awesome" to "I Hope He Dies In A Fire," how douchey is my brother?
I seriously wish I had the balls to write that!!! I'm so not a FB dirty laundry air-er though!

For Dax we would need a longer middle name because of the length of 1) Dax and 2) our last name is only 2 syllables, and all of the shorter middle names just sounded too bizarre with the first and last name. Also, for Rhys it would be pronounced like the candy minus the extra S on the end.

Yes, like Reese. Don't know why I didn't just type that...
    BabyFetus TickerLilypie Kids Birthday tickersimage
  • I don't know. I mean, my first name is two syllables, and my (old) middle name was one, and my (old) last name was two. It was fine. Think about Dean Cain for example.

All that said, I like Daxon Reese, but I would spell it Reese. But that's because I have hang-ups about spellings. My name is spelled pretty normally, but people spell it the "other" normal way all the time. Pisses me right off.

I am totally open for suggestions, for middle names that go with Dax. Maybe I'm just picky, but I didn't like the way most of the shorter names sounded with Dax. As far as the Reese spelling I hear you. My first name can be spelled two ways (mine is the less common version) and people usually spell it wrong. Doesn't really bother me, but I am sensitive to that so thank you for reminding me!
    BabyFetus TickerLilypie Kids Birthday tickersimage
  • I agree about the spelling thing.. Otherwise you'll get a lot of people pronouncing it Ryes... IMO
  • Sorry @SPurp13‌ but I like Rhys much better spelling-wise. It is the Welsch version of the then Anglicized name Reese. I looked it up cause I was curious haha.

I like Dax better but I like Daxon Joel or Dax Wesley.

Dax Darius (if alliteration is something okay with you)
    Dax Patrick
    Dax Parker
Dax Abraham (got your three syllables?)

Not a fan. Sorry. But I prefer traditional/classic names. With all the Jaxons out there, I doubt your DS will feel his name is too unique!

I like Daxon Rhys and Daxon Wesley best. Don't like Dax at all, except as a nickname.

I love Daxon and Dax as either a first or nickname. Dax is the name on my guilty pleasure show... Lost Girl.

  • I like it! I like Daxon Rhys... And remember most people will never know his middle name so you can pick whatever you want! Most people look at me like I have three heads when they hear DS's middle name will be Ishmael but it's DH's middle name and I love that!! :x
    Me - J.R. - 05/1986
    DH - J.I. - 08/1986

Absolutely in love with our 'big' family!

I'm also a proud Auntie to a crazy little girl, her brand new baby sister, a little man on his way in the next month, and a sweet little mister we will miss forever!!!

I love Dax, but I am biased because its my husbands name. I wanted to use his name but he said no to having a Jr. I also considered Daxton but DH vetoed it.

I love the name Rhys! Did you get it from Rhys Darby from flight of the conchords? I knew how to pronounce it, but I could see how people who haven't seen/heard the name wouldn't know how since it's not traditional. Anywho, I like daxon rhys... Not totally my style to use, but I don't think it's awful at all
Thanks! No, I actually got it from the actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers.... DH really likes a couple of his movies, so that's where we saw it first.

    I would choose Daxon Wesley R.  :)

  • I love the name Rhys.  DH vetoed it when I suggested it for DS.

I like Dax, but I think Daxon sounds really trendy (just like Maxon, Jaxon, etc.  It falls in there with the Aiden, Jayden, Broden trend for me), and not my style.  But what your brother did was shitty, regardless of what he or anyone else thinks of the name you chose.
