When did/will you reveal?

I'm at 10 weeks 5 days today. I've told close friends, family, and my boss, but I can't decide when I want to tell coworkers and the rest of our friends. How did you all decide? Part of my hesitation is I'm a pretty private person, and get kind of embarrassed when attention is on me, especially at work. And I have a couple coworkers who are a bit overbearing, and I don't know how I will handle them. They have good intentions, but they are the kind of people who will probably insist on feeling the bump, etc. etc.

My plan right now is to wait until 2nd trimester or perhaps after my 13 week genetic ultrasound. I'd love advice for how you each decided though!

Re: When did/will you reveal?

  • My hubby and I are both teachers at the same middle school. We go back next week when I will be about 12 weeks along. We are probably just going to reveal right away as I am very nauseous and throw up multiple times a day. We want people to know why I may suddenly get up and leave or need someone to watch my class for a minute. It's too hard to hide it when you have to run out of the room constantly and your a teacher. I would prefer to wait until after my appt on the 26 to make sure everything is on track but that is 3 weeks into school so that won't work.

  • We will announce at 16weeks. We have our anatomy scan that week, and are going to a wedding the following weekend so its better to get it out by then. Mainly because I dont want our friends to see me at the wedding and bombard me (since Im showing)... its not my big day, I'd rather they get it out before hand, but I just havent been quite ready to spill yet.

  • We've told immediate family and a couple of very close friends so far.  I don't plan to tell my team at work until after my 16 week appointment (probably?), as I work in a different city so I think I can get away with it.  For some reason I just feel very guarded about it.  I don't think I'll make any big announcement, although my mom cannot stay off of FB for longer than 2 minutes at a time, so I'm sure she will want to.  I'm okay with that I guess, as long as it's after 16 weeks or so.

  • We told close family and friends, but instead of making a formal office announcement I'm just going to say something on facebook and let the word get out.  I have an appointment on Monday and will be at 13 weeks.  We have an ultrasound Monday too, so we'll know that everything looks good.

  • We announced to family around 8 weeks, made it FB official last week.  With our first we announced even earlier...maybe 7 weeks?  It's hard to put a definite week date on it because it depends on how comfortable you are.  We decided to announce to everyone once we had heard a heartbeat and had our dating U/S.

  • We've told close friends and family. I've told a few close friends at work, as well. I won't say anything to my boss until after I hear the heartbeat at my appointment next week.

  • We told parents/family last weekend (MIL has issues with keeping a secret, so parents had to wait till after 12weeks). Ended up telling the office and close friends today.

My SIL should deliver her 3rd today so we'll let them have their moment before sharing with everyone on FB.

  • I'll tell my boss when I go back to work in a couple weeks. He was amazing during my loss so I'm not really worried. But literally as I'm typing this he called to tell me I'm moving out if first grade and into third. Testing grade!! Freaking out a little.

  • We told are kids pretty early and they told the world. I told my boss at ten weeks because I promised I would let him know right away. I'm not close to my coworkers, I'm not telling them all. They will find out when I'm too round to hide it.
  • I'm telling my boss, one person who I work directly with who is gossipy, and one other person at my work place who is gossipy. I figure they'll disseminate it well enough.  Others who haven't heard will figure it out when they see me. I'm going to tell them after I hear a heartbeat this week, so I'll be 12 weeks.

  • We told immediate family and friends pretty early on. I told my boss around 8 weeks and never really announced to the rest of my coworkers because I hate being the center of attention. Instead, I just casually slipped a pregnancy comment in a conversation I was having with a few co-workers. They figured it out, said congrats, and we all went back to work. Eventually, the news made it's way around the rest of the office.

  • Told immediate family at 7 weeks after our first sono where we saw the heartbeats.  We told our friends and bosses after our 13 week scan/NT test.  It has gotten out a bit by word of mouth and we were prepared for that.

We won't post on social media until after our 16 week appointment where we will announce the sexes of the babies.  I am honestly shocked no one has outed us yet on facebook.

    Tell whenever you want to!

  • We had a "confirmation scan" at 6 weeks and saw a good heartbeat. At 9 weeks we had our first prenatal visit and ultrasound and everything was perfect with a healthy HB of 178. After that I felt good about telling people but still apprehensive. I was worried something could go wrong, but more that I just didn't want to share just yet because I loved only us having this secret. The only person who knew prior was one of my best friends because she is also pregnant so it was nice having someone to talk to about it.

We told DH's family all together at 10 weeks, 3 days. We would have waited longer but a family member was moving out of state soon and it felt wrong not to tell them in person. Crying, hugging, and lots of loud yelling ensued.

We told my family at 12 weeks 2 days when we drove there for a cook out. They live 4 hours away so it was a special occasion we couldn't miss. Between that time and 13 weeks we told all other close friends and family but we still haven't made a public announcement online or anything like that. I don't know if we will, but it would probably be like 20+ weeks.

  • We told our family after our ultrasound so I was a little over 10 weeks. We told close friends after that. I told my new principal a couple of weeks ago in a meeting. He doesn't know anyone well enough to spread it-haha. I have a doctor's appt next week so as long as everything looks good, I will tell my co-workers a couple days later. We aren't doing anything on FB until we find out the sex.
  • We have told my parents. So far, that is all. I am a very private person, as well and I really hate having attention on me. For that reason, I am I no rush. We will probably start telling people, as we see them, beginning in second tri but I will absolutely not be doing any kind of big reveal or mass announcement either on fb or in person. I just can't.
