Scared to death

I'm delivering tomorrow at 34 weeks and I am terrified. I have been hospitalized since 26 weeks so I didn't get to take any childbirth classes so I have no clue about dealing with labor. I know that nerves are normal but just looking for some advice. Tia

I agree with PP, videos online help! I started freaking out about the idea of taking care of a newborn, since well, I've never taken care of babies before, and videos were what made me feel more at peace

Good Luck momma! As pp's have said check out some videos online and I would also share your concern with your nurses they may be able to offer some tips.

You'll do great! I really wasn't prepped when I delivered DD at 32 weeks, but my doc and nurses talked me through everything and it was just fine.

Good luck and even moms who have done it before or have taken all the classes are still terrified. The nurses will help you. Does your hospital have a doula program? Ours had volunteer doulas on a first come first serve basis when women would check in for labor that was helpful for us

Talk with a nurse and see if they can give you some tips. The childbirth classes I'm taking are run by two nurses directly from the hospital's L&D. Try to stay as calm as possible and remember you can do this! And you get to see your LO soon so keep that focus in mind. Good luck!

You've got this mama! You will be just fine, and in the end, you'll look back with baby in your arms and it will all seem so completely worth it. The drs and nurses will be there to help you, just try to stay calm and keep breathing - your body will know what it needs to do, and the medical folks are there to help it along just in case.

Your L&D nurse is on your team! S/he will walk you through everything! Just make sure to communicate any questions, concerns, wants, whatever with him/her. You are not doing this alone so you don't need to watch any videos or take any classes! Everyone in that room delivers babies all day, every day- they've got your back!

As far as taking care of baby: ask a lot of questions before you leave the hospital- it is a great place to learn! Until my hubbs started nursing school I didn't realize that a lot of a nurse's job is patient education-- they are there to help you out! If you're breast feeding ask to talk to the Lactation Consultant before you leave the hospital (their services are free while you're an inpatient at my hospital but you have to pay $75 an hour after you check out!). Ask a nurse to show you how to change the diaper. Video tape the baby's first bath so you can watch it as a tutorial when you get home. Get someone to work with you on swaddling. You're not going to have to go anywhere or do anything while you're in the hospital so make it your baby bootcamp!

I took a newborn parenting class and it wasn't all that. I'd have been just fine going in without the class. You have got this! Good luck in there- we'll be thinking of you tomorrow! (((HUGS)))

Good luck tomorrow! You'll do great! The nurses will walk you through everything. Just try to stay relaxed and calm, and breathe! I've never taken any childbirth or newborn classes either. Don't worry at all, caring for your baby comes naturally!

Good luck! Your nursing staff will be able to give you tips and coach you and SO. Ask questions when you have them. I have never taken classes and survived and I am also scared about delivery and this is my 4th! What you are feeling is normal.

I'm sure you'll do great! Our bodies were designed for this.. and don't worry about not taking any classes, plenty of my friends have told me all of their "breathing techniques" went right out the window when it came time! Sending you good vibes!!
