Hives?

Hello Ladies! What's your best guess as to what this is? It will appear then get a bit bigger then fade away. I'm thinking a reaction to oranges or tomatoe sauce? This is the worst it was. And it's only in one or two spots at a time. This was just this one on his cheek.

Thanks! An allergy of some sort was our guess too. It's not a bite. (It'd be easier if it were) sigh. I'm going to call his Dr now to see what they say.

  • Yeah I mean, that definitely looks like a hive.  Have you started keeping a food journal to see if you can pinpoint the cause?  You should get some Benadryl to keep on hand because allergies can get progressively worse and that would be your first line of defense if the reaction got bad.

  • I agree that it looks like a hive. I would definitely show your pediatrician the photo and keep a food journal. ETA: Did you talk to the pedi? What did he/she say?

My LO sometimes gets redness associated with eating tomato sauce, but it's a very flat rash that's centralized around his mouth, where the sauce actually touched. It's never raised and it disappears very quickly.
Aiden had that with ranch and the doctor told us at the time that it was a sensitivity so as long as it never got worse than that, he could eat it.  He did outgrow it :)

Thank you for your input! The Dr. said it was hives but couldn't really pinpoint the culprit. But we've narrowed it down to fruits. I gave him strawberries (I know, a high allergen, but he'd never had a reaction before) when we got home for a snack because he hadn't had them since well before the hives started and he broke out worse then ever! The Dr gave Claratin for him to take once a day for a week. We didn't have any reaction after dinner so hopefully it's just fruits and we can figure out which one. But it stinks cause he loves fruits and has never had a problem before.
