Stretch marks- lotion

Okay! I am a first time expecting mom to be (5 weeks today)! I can't talk to many since we haven't really told anyone. So... What are y'all's thoughts. What is the best lotion to prevent stretch marks as much as possible?

Re: Stretch marks- lotion

  • You can't completely prevent them, only mitigate.

I've been using Palmer's cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks on my boobs since they're growing like crazy. Seems to work ok so far.

  • Is anyone else experiencing itching? I think my skin is stretching.... My belly , boobs , but specially my arms. I am using nivea and pAlmers cocoa butter multiple times a day
  • Ditto what @ToasterCat said and sometimes stretch marks get you when you least expect it.  I didn't have a single one throughout the bulk of my pregnancy and thought I dodged it.  DS was 5 days late and I got stretch marks on day 4 of being late.  Thanks a lot, universe.  :) I also got a very dark linea negra that is still here 6 months later.  It had started to fade, but seeing as how I'm pregnant again before it went away, I'm guessing it will be quite a while before that bad boy goes away.

  • Ditto @ToasterCat. Like @kschref, I thought I escaped stretchmarks for most of my pregnancy. They hit at week 36 and I gave birth 37w2d. FWIW, they did lighten up a ton almost immediately and you can barely see them and I never used any cocoa butter or special oils or anything. I do use regular lotion every day just to hydrate my skin, period.

  • Cocoa butter is supposed to help because it improves elasticity ive heard. But i tried to prevent them my first pregnancy and i have them from my ribs to my pelvis :/ unfortunatly i think if you are gonna get them theres nothing to stop it
  • I'm using a sugar scrub with argan oil in the shower, just in case it will help anything. If anything, I will have super soft skin! Drink a lot of water, keep hydrated, put the lotion in the basket, etc. Only time will tell if it helps!

Exact same thing for me. I got tiny stretch marks about a week after my due date last time. He came about a week and and half late. I also had the linea negra for 6 months and now that It's started to fade I got pregnant so I feel like I'll have that line foreverrrrrr.

I like the Silence of the Lambs reference.
  • I got a good amount with DS but they did fade after with bio oil and giving them time. I just ordered some off Sephora last week because it came with a bust version as well and the reviews said it soothed achy boobs. I don't think I notice much of a difference but my nipples aren't as sensitive in the morning after I put it on but it could also be a coincidence too! It's made by Mustela.

  • I recently purchased The Spoiled Mama Tummy Butter and Bump Gloss Stretch Mark Oil after much research. It comes highly recommended due to all natural ingredients and (supposed) effectiveness... I started using the tummy butter. The smell is really bothering me. I gag for 10 minutes after putting it on so I'm going to hang on to it until this first trimester is done in hopes the gag-reflex settles a bit.
If you aren't having insane crazy nausea maybe look into this product...?
  • I used pure Vit E oil with DD. I do think stretch marks are mostly un preventable, however, I was religious about the oil all over my belly and especially sides, but not so much right around my belly button. That's the only place I got stretch marks. I already have a new bottle of oil purchased and plan on using it again, just incase!
  • With my first born I was just occasionally lathering up post shower, ect. And had literally zero stretch marks going into the labour room at 9 months pregnant I thought I was golden until after I had the little bugger I looked like I got attacked my a tiger. Boobs, belly, sides. So much for bikini belly!!!
  • I used the spoiled mama products with my last pregnancy. I also use Dove toning body wash. I was able to avoid stretch marks with my last pregnancy even though my mom had them horribly. I will go with the same routine this time around. As a side note: not being braggy or anything, a couple years ago my massage therapist told me I had the most elastic skin she has ever worked in. I attribute it to the body wash and will never use anything different!
  • I got stretch marks at about 36 weeks.  They itched like crazy!  I used cocoa butter lotion the whole pregnancy, just to help keep my skin soft and to hopefully help reduce the severity of the stretch marks.  They faded really quickly and are just skin colored now.  If I was skinny, I'd have no qualms about rocking a bikini because of them.

I'm already trying to remember to moisturize this time around.  While I still got them last time, maybe they would have been worse without the moisturizing.  At least it helped relieve the itch!
