I'm a nerdy science person and actually chart my weight alongside my last pregnancy. I've been within 1lb. since my BFP every single day compared to last pregnancy! Up 10lb. exactly.
Try not to obsess over weight! Unless you find weighing yourself ENJOYABLE, then get rid of your scale. Eat healthy, drink water, enjoy the pregnancy. (I feel like gwenyth paltrow might say something like that. hurk. bear with me. lol)
I gained about 50 both times. I was eating well, drinking lots of water, and exercising. I find that keeping longterm healthy habits, including enjoyable exercise, regular walks, etc, while pregnant is key to bouncing back after. The weight is not important as an isolated factor--- it's the underlying health of your system and your mind. Weight should not be a measure of how well you are doing. How do you FEEL? Do you feel weak, tired all the time? Look for ways to help take care of yourself and nourish yourself with extra healthy foods, good fats, fruit/veg, and smoothies to go easy on your digestive system. Avoid the sugars. Do you feel strong and full of life? Perfect. Who cares that you've gained 20 lbs? etc
I am 16 weeks and up 3lbs. I am 5'4 and am 130 lbs. But I have been at 130 since my first appointment at 8 weeks. I had horrible morning sickness and could only eat white starches for about 2 months, and I had to eat them often.
I'm 15 weeks 6 days n according to my last drs appt which was 6 days ago I was up 6lbs... but I'm not stressing it.. I eat like I always have.. minus meat, still can't do meat lol but I make up for the lack of meat with beans n eggs n such.... I'll let my Dr tell me if he's concerned..
15w+2d and have only gained 2 lbs. Doctor isn't concerned and says as long as baby is growing, it's fine. He also says I should gain most of my weight in the third trimester.
18w with twins, up 8lbs. I feel like I'm forcing myself to eat 24/7, and am having to work really hard at gaining. I thought pregnancy eating would be more enjoyable!
I'm up 9 lbs at 18 weeks 4 days....I'm really hoping I don't gain the 38 lbs I did with DD!
Isn't 38 pounds right around normal? I read 25-35 is "normal". I dont think 38 is that much! I hope I ONLY gain 38! haha.
I don't want to gain as much because it was hard on my body, my feet and hips hurt so much I could hardly walk at the end. I am only 5'2 so I think it was a lot for my frame. I wasn't as responsible with my eating as I should have been, and I should have been more active. I'm hoping to stay below 30 this time, but I'm not going to dwell on it, I'm just going to try to be more healthy!
I'm 5'2 also...I was just shooting for the recommended 25-35, knowing I very well may go over (and telling msyelf not to worry too much about it). But it's interesting to hear the perspective of it being a lot for being short. Thank you. I do think that eating healthy and staying active are key. Good luck!!
14lb up in week 16 with twins. Sounds like much more than other ladies ....
Until I saw your post I felt like no one else was in my boat. That's ok we're winning. HAHAHA. I had an easier first tri with very minimum morning sickness.
I'm a "normal weight" and at 15 weeks, I've gained 4 lbs. I lost 2 lbs the first week after the BFP and have slowly gained it back plus some. I'm thinking that a lot of this weight can be attributed to my boobs.

BFP #1: EDD 4/16/13~~blighted ovum w/ 2 gestational sacs~~Loss on 9/18/12 BFP #2: EDD 9/3/13~~Slow HB at 1st U/S~~MMC -Loss on 2/13/13
9/13, 10/13, 1/14: letrozole + trigger + TI = All BFNs
I'm 17.5 weeks and down about 3-4 pounds from where I started - lost about 7 pounds overall first tri due to nausea/not eating. I would say I had a "healthy" 15-20 to lose to begin with before I was pregnant, so I'm not complaining (and my doc doesn't seem worried) thus far.
At my 18w appointment last week I was up 4 pounds. My dr said I was right on track. If I gain the suggested 1 lb per week for the remainder of my pregnancy I will gain 26 lbs overall. The "norm" is anywhere from 25-35lbs but like everyone else has said, everyone is different.
Since I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks I've lost a lot of weight... next Friday I'll know my current weight and know if I've started gaining yet or not. The last time I went I'm and the time before that I lost 5 pounds each visit. So right now I'm unsure how much I should gain. This is my first pregnancy and I'm considered overweight but I'm under 180 and a height of 5'8" so if I can gain under 20 pounds for this pregnancy. I'll be very happy
I'm 18.5 weeks. In the first trimester I lost 5 lbs due to morning sickness. Just this week I got back up to my starting weight, so I've gained back the 5 lbs I lost.
Just had a check-up and I'm down 4lbs. Pre-pregnancy weight. Doc said most likely because I'm eating healthier and more frequently with faster metabolism. Plus, you know...morning sickness. So...I went and got chik-fil-a minis....mmmmmmmmm.
Still down 10lbs from where I started....and almost 18 weeks along. To be fair though I still had a lot of weight on from previous pregnancies. Hoping to get a bigger appetite soon. food right now is just "meh" But I think that might also be because it's summer.
15 wks and up 5lbs, which would be fine if I hadn't gained 10 with my last pregnancy only in Feb of this year that I never lost... Hoping to keep it under 30 total, which is gonna be tough.
BFP #1: Dec 2013, MMC Feb 2014 @ 13 wks due to Turner's Syndrome
The nurses at my doctor's office weigh me (and I assume everyone) backwards so I never really know. I think I'm up around 5 lbs at 14 weeks? As long as mini-human is doing its thing, we're good. My doctor has made no mention of what they expect or want me to gain.
I just started reading Dr. Luke's book for expecting multiples, I havent been eating enough, I need to catch up my weight gain and I need to eat soooo much foid, so I will be going to the store. I am not up 10 lbs yet, and am 15 weeks.
@bigboneded It's seriously hard to eat enough food according to her recommendations. I'm really struggling with it. I just started reading another book (Mothering Multiples) which recommends 1 to 1.5 lbs a week for the 1st 20 weeks. Again, I'm nowhere NEAR that and I'm already at 18w. The association of good 2nd tri weight gain with higher birthweight babies is really important. I just have a really, really hard time getting that much food in. Particularly because of the large amount of water we're expected to drink, too!
@Bigboneded and @spoonleg, interesting, I may have to check out the resources you mentioned. I haven't been reading as much lately and have picked up anything specific to twins. I am at 18 weeks and up 5 lbs. The twins are measuring right on track so far so I am trying not to obsess about weight too much. Mostly I am trying to manage my stress levels/anxiety.
I am way ahead of most of you which is making me nervous. This is my first pregnancy, I'm 41 yrs old and was in great shape when I got pregnant. I've already gaine 15 lbs and I'm 18 weeks. I know it's because my sweet tooth is taking over my life lately.
According to the scale at the midwives office, I haven't gained anything - but I know this is a lie because my first appointments were all in the afternoon and my last one was at 8am (pre-bloat time.) I'm guessing I'm up 3-4 pounds and it all seemed to come on in one week between 14 and 15 weeks!
I gained 10 pounds in the first trimester. For me, the thing that kept the nausea at bay was making sure I had food in my stomach at all times. Plus I had really strong cravings for cheese.
I've only gained 1 pound so far in the second trimester. So I'm assuming my body is just doing things a little backwards...
I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow and I've only gained 1 pound so far. Lost 5 in the first trimester and gained them all back in a few weeks plus 1 pound. My doctor said that I'm right on track so I'm not worried though I was a few weeks ago.
5'1" 98 at start weighing 107 now at 18 weeks. I gained 20 pounds with my son but exercised and ate very well the whole pregnancy. This time I'm being told no exercise (due to preterm labor) and I'm eating more junk than I ever would
I lost about 10lbs in the first tri because I had serious food aversions. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and have gained one pound so far. I was the same exact way with my first.
