My 18 month old nephew has been in a lot of pain all week and randomly vomiting. My sister has called the children's hospital daily and they kept saying it was just bruising and it would take time. She then thought maybe he had a hip out of place, so she called a chiro friend to look at it last night. He looked and said he though a growth plate might be broke and to get him to the ER ASAP. They (Sister and BIL) went to the closest ER (my sister still has a crushed foot and lower leg that cannot be operated on until the swelling goes down, so she is in pain). The ER did and x-ray and determined that his FEMUR is BROKEN! I guess the x-ray tech at the children's hospital missed it last week after he was air lifted there after the wreck. Then the doctor, radiologist, and everyone else missed it also. So he had to be taken back to the children's hospital last night and has been re-admitted. they now have to not only fix the break (which may include re-breaking any growth that may have happened in the last 7 days), but check for clotting and damage tot he muscle around the bone. My sister said they are being super nice and apologetic, but that poor baby! He has had a broken femur for 7 days, not ate, barely moved, and had only ibuprofen... My sister is also in major pan with her leg. I am going to the hospital this morning... I hope they can keep him comfortable through all of this.
Re: Update on Family
BFP: 1.19.2013 - EDD: 10.2.2013 - It's a girl! 9.25.13: Welcome Addison!
I am in the operating waiting room now. They have him back for re-setting and casting. My sister said when they got back to the children's hospital ER last night, the nurse insinuated that it had been broken since the wreck. My sister told her that he had barely moved since the wreck because every time he moved he was vomiting and that she had call numerous times and to go look at the file. The nurse came back and said that they see a lot of people in their ER and they can't be expected to catch everything!! He was brought in on a helicopter, you would think they would be able to find a break of the biggest bone in his body!
My sister also said that the doctors and nurses on the floor that they are on now are awesome (they were also awesome while we were their last weekend). I just didn't want it to sound like I was nurse bashing, or let this turn into nurse bashing, over one bad apple. Everyone else is doing everything they can to fix the situation.
Continued thoughts and prayers for your family, especially that little man.
Also WTF ER nurse? Yes because a woman who can hardly move would break her sons leg and then hide it for a week. Esp after documented instances of trying to get him help. Get her name, its poopmail time.
