My middle name is Mariah, which is what my parents called me my whole life, the name I go by, etc. So confusing on official forms though! My 2 cents: don't name your kid with the plan of calling them by their middle name! Just make it the first name.

@alissendis It's not like the worst thing in the world, it's just weird to give and be called my first name at places like the doctors office. Just a lot of "actually I go by my middle name" convos. #firstworldproblems

My parents did the same thing to my brother. He has been called/gone by his middle name his entire life. He is actually thinking about getting a legal name change to make his middle name his first name, and his first name his middle name.

My dad had the same thing happen. He was named after his father but called by his middle name. As soon as he turned 18 he switched his legal name to his middle name and old first name was his new middle name. Only problem was that he never wanted to hurt his dad's feelings so he didn't tell anyone. His dad eventually found out and there were some hard feelings

Because of this I would not choose to call my child by a middle name. That said, I know people who do this and like it too!

Justine, I have the 15th generation of it and was able to pass it on to my DD so she has the 16th generation of it. It actually could go back further than that but we quit researching after we found out my grandma was the 13th.
