Success after IF

Nursing Clothes

So I had this huge breakdown last night and typed out this extremely long vent but never posted it. I think just writing it out was helpful because I woke up feeling better. In any case, I'm a teacher and have been on summer break since my maternity leave started around Easter. Needless to say, I have yet to wear any work clothes. I've been living in maxi skirts and comfy t's when I have to get dressed and workout clothes and yoga pants when I'm at home. I basically screwed myself because I fell for the "I weight less than pre-pregnancy so I must fit into my old clothes" mindset (just like after DD) but of course nothing fits and we are leaving today for a wedding tomorrow. (Sorry, long backstory).

So my question is... where do you shop to find good nursing clothes that are appropriate for work?

I have avoided buying anything labeled "nursing" because I feel like stores mark up the price. It also very frustrating when I shop online and pretty much all nursing clothes are worn on pregnant models and I really don't want to wear anything labeled "maternity" when I'm  not pregnant anymore. I guess that's just a mental issue I need to get over.

DH said we'll stop on the way to the wedding to search for a dress. He's annoyed that I waited so long to figure this out. I am too I guess. Wow, this turned out longer than I expected.

Re: Nursing Clothes

  • Anything button down or loose works great for pumping. I just avoid dresses that are tight and need to be unzipped.

  • I was out during my short lived breast feeding attempts with H so I don't have advice coming from experience. A friend of mine (we're both teachers also) had a baby last August and was back at work within 8 weeks. She wore maxi skirts most of the time with a nursing tank (different colors), or a regular tank/cami with a cardigan or button up shirt over it (not buttoned though, more like a jacket). It was super easy access for pumping, comfy, and school appropriate.

  • I wore a lot of v-necks, button down shirts and nursing tank tops under a light cardigan when I was nursing. Not sure if any of those are okay for your work. I work at a casual office, but I think those can all work at a dressier place too. My go-to's were Old Navy, Target, Motherhood Maternity and H&M. All pretty affordable. I hope you find some stuff you like!

  • I wound up not nursing & working at the same time so no personal experience there. (Although I did wear button down work ok shirts over nursing tanks when we left the house while I was still nursing just because I found it easy)

However, FWIW, I was in the mall this week and both our Sears & Macy's had a ton of super sale maternity/nursing wear I guess to clear out for fall. Good luck!

  • I wear a lot of tops that cross in the front so it's easy access for nursing and not necessarily called a nursing top. I don't fit in any of my work clothes so I am still stuck to wearing dresses and skirts with the same tops every day blah. I wear mostly nursing tops from motherhood or got some tops from target. I don't want to spend a ton on clothes yet this is all I fit. I don't want to bother wearing tops that are a hassle to unbutton or nurse where you have to take your whole shirt off to do so since I have a toddler to chase right when I get off work.

not that brand just that type of neckline so I can nurse easily since I can't really wear nursing tanks to a dress up office job.
