We are the second house from an intersection. M-f at 6am someone drives by in a car with either a busted exhaust or a failed attempt at a souped up exhaust. It wakes me out of a dead sleep with all my windows closed and a fan on. Every morning at 6:02 am when I can't fall back to sleep I contemplate calling in a noise violation to the police. I'm an asshole.
My dogs are also assholes. They bark at everything. A leaf, a car, a cat, a person. Everything. I was always the person that as soon as they started barking I ran to get them and bring them inside. Now it is to the point that they are hardly spending any time outside because they bark so damn much. They are hyper, and fat. I think I need to just leave them outside even if they are barking. I mean, obviously not for hours. But 10-15 minutes doesn't make me an awful neighbor, does it ?

OMG, our dogs could be related. I let ours outside, and he starts instantly with the barking. I hate to be that neighbor, but you're right, they can't be indoors all the time.
My cat is an asshole too. Today is the first day in a few weeks that I decided to let her have the run of the house (she was spending her days in the basement) to see if she will stop peeing all the f- all over the place. We had the carpet cleaned in DS' room, with a special pet treatment, and I can STILL smell the cat urine. I'm ready to lose my mind. But before I decide to tear up carpet or do anything else drastic, I need to see if my other behavioral tricks have worked. I'm not about to get a new rug so she can ruin that one too.
My dog is the laziest. It's not like he's old either, because he's not even 3 yet, but the second he turned 2 he went from puppy crazy to "I want to sleep all the time." If given the choice between going in his crate and going outside in the backyard on a beautiful day, he chooses the crate every time. (Half the time I open the door for him to go outside, and he makes a mad rush for his crate instead.) I mean, I get that it's hot in Georgia, but our backyard is shaded and I don't leave him out there long.
He's not fat cause he adjusts his eating according to the exercise he gets. Fortunately he'll go on walks any time, night or day. I end up taking him at 10pm when DH goes to bed for some peace and quiet time.
Ethan has been home the last two days with diahrrea. He is a lot better but still has it a little. We had to take him to DC today because DH can't miss more work and I can't miss any because this is my first week at this job. I'm sitting here with fingers and toes crossed that they don't call. I don't want to miss work my first week
I'll jump on the asshole pet wagon. We left down for 4 days and 3 nights. My parents came over to feed the cats, empty the dehumidifier, grab the mail etc. They didn't get a chance on Tuesday, no problem I want into the living room which has one 5x7 area rug, cat puke ALL over. From Monday to Tuesday when my parents were last there they puked not 1,2,3,4 or 5 times but 6 TIMES! WTF? All over my wool area rug, the carpet on the stairs and the basement living room carpet. Ruined. I'm SO pissed and honestly I'm so over them.
If you have hardwood floors, did you install a humidifier/dehumidifier in your home? We just got an estimate on flooring (which is outrageous, BTW), and it said we should install these in the basement so the wood always stays at the proper humidity level.

I have three cats. Two are complete dicks. We just moved into our first home at the beginning of July. In our rental, one of the assholes pissed all over the carpet. I was hoping that would end once we moved into this home and she didn't have carpet downstairs to pee on. Now she's pissing on the rug in the half bathroom. The rug is right beside her litter box. Makes no sense. The other cat throws up his food everywhere on our new white carpet upstairs. There's orange stains everywhere. We have to shampoo the carpet, but it still makes me mad. Can't have anything nice because of them!

YES! Really if you have any moisture in your basement in the summer (no a/c etc) you should have one. We've had one even before the laminate to suck the moisture out. It's helped a ton. Hardwood/laminate expands and contracts with the humidity level so having a dehumidifier/humidifier is pretty important.
I've stopped wearing my wedding rings. I don't really know what to do with them. The stones were my grandmothers from her second (failed) marriage so I feel weird selling them. But I don't have any daughters to hand them down to either.

@melody921, I hate to advocate for drugging your pets, but seriously, since we've had Mavis on the cat Prozac she's a completely normal cat. No peeing on the floor in almost 2 weeks. The doc explained it to me that since we've tried all of these other things, maybe she really has a problem and she's just as upset as we are and blah blah blah. Apparently mental illness in pets is also a taboo subject. ;-) It's worth looking into though. It's really been night and day for us.
Shitty Cookies is wearing the princess pants from the picture I posted a couple weeks ago. I can't even stand how idiotic this guy is. I don't give a shit if it's relay for life at 6pm tonight. YOURE AT WORK. Thank God he at least has shorts under them this time. It's like a car accident--you don't want to see it. You want to look away, but the image will forever be burned into your brain.

@Pokedot, it's important even if the hardwood is not in the basement? We have A/C, but it seems like they're recommending it anyway.

@MarisaKathleen, if she continues, I'm all for drugs. What's weird is that she doesn't show other signs of stress/distress. And she's always been a really good cat. I could kill her right now.
A woman in a FB moms group I'm a part of just posted an all-caps, many exclamation point post about how she needs coupons ASAP for a local amusement park bc she planned this trip on a budget and now her original budget plans fell through. I feel like telling her to set up a GoFundMe account like the rest of the world.
Another cat-related issue -- Does anyone with a cat also own a fish? I wanted to get DD a fish for her bday bc she is obsessed. But I just wanted a beta in a little bowl, not an aquarium that is going to add one more chore for me and DH. But I am just envisioning the cat knocking over the bowl. Any tips to avoid that, or should I just skip the fish?

I can sympathize. There's a guy on my street with a car like this. I've ranted about him before! He is the bane of my existence. Since I WFH, I hear him all day long. He works on the car every single day, so he's always revving the engine & speeding up & down the street taking it for a "test drive". I f*cking hate him. It baffles me how he can be so oblivious to how absolutely obnoxious he is.
I had Beta fish strewn about our apartment when we first got married and Wanda was a terrorist little kitten. Our cats don't go on the tables or counters, so for us, it was a non-issue.
We're getting Nancy a little 2 gallon aquarium for her birthday because she's also completely obsessed. I had to draw fish on her fork last night because she had a complete meltdown about a fish fork. We plan to buy the self cleaning kind with the filter so there's minimal work and we're keeping it in her room on the shelf to avoid any cat snacks.

@MarisaKathleen, I didn't know this existed. It's covered on the top, or no?

We have 2 dehumidifiers in our basement, but there are no hard wood floors down there. I've never heard about having to place them in the same room was the hard wood flooring.

I don't see the need for it if it's not in the basement. Thats where more of the moisture will settle. I've never seen a dehumifier other than the basement.

This is what I was planning on getting, since I had one exactly like this when I was younger. I do think it's stupid to spend $50 on it though, so I've been trying to find it cheaper.

I would just put them away in a safe or jewelry box for now. You have time later to decide if you want to spend the money creating a new piece out of them. And plenty of time to decide if you want to pass them down to one of your boys, or maybe a niece also related to your grandmother.

Not the same, but we have a fake fish tank in the boys bathroom. Our cat never ever goes in their bathroom and has never noticed the tank. Do you have an area your cat never goes into but the kids will see a few times a day at least?

When we had wood floors installed in the bedrooms of our TX house, they never mentioned a humidifier/dehumidifier. The wood just had to sit out a few days before installing. We didn't have a basement.
How did I not know that self-cleaning tanks existed?!? We bought DS1 a betta fish for his 4th birthday and I always have to clean the tank. Bobby (the 4yo named him) may be getting a new tank in the near future.
My dogs are jerks too. They bark way too much and since their eyesight is going, they bark at everything.
And @holly_1007 - I almost called the cops on our neighbors that were swimming in our apt complex's pool at 3am last Saturday night. They were obnoxiously loud (since we had the windows open and we are right next to the pool) & our pool is technically closed. Then I chickened out...

Thanks! And yeah, I'm suspicious of the price difference between the two. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want quality.
Our sitter called me just after 5 last night and said something came up and could I find someone to watch Nanc today. No problem, got it worked out really quickly. Our sitter has never called in sick, or not been able to take Nancy last minute. It was so weird. I asked if everything was ok and she just said "no, but I don't want to talk about it yet." so I said ok. We've become pretty good friends, so I didn't want to pry since it's not like her to be anything but open and forthcoming. So today she texts me, says she's sorry again about not being able to take Nanc today and can she come over and talk to DH and I after I get home from work. Now I'm panicking. She said she's not coming over to quit. :-) She had her thyroid removed last week and found out earlier this week that it was indeed cancer, so I can't figure out what else she'd be so upset about that she wants to come over and talk to us both.
The whole thing is just so unlike her! And if we weren't friends and I didn't' see her and her DH everyday, maybe I'd think something was up with their marriage, or with her kids, but everything *seems* perfectly normal. So we'll see.

That's awesome that she's already assured you she's not quitting but whatever her news is I hope its happy news!

STUCK: Nope, definitely not. They both got fixed after their 4yo was born. :-)
Watch, it's going to be something totally silly that in reality is no big deal.
