I'm 23 weeks today! Overall, it has been an uncomplicated pregnancy; however, I have several fibroid tumors that have grown since conception and have the potential to cause issues at the time of delivery. I've already had 7 ultrasounds for various reasons but to also check the size and position of the tumors. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can have a vaginal delivery, but I'm preparing mentally for a possible C-section.
With this being my first pregnancy, I struggle with all the fears that come with inexperience. The good thing is that being an "older" mom helps me not to sweat the small stuff!... mostly hahaha
I'm 41. Got married at 39, became pregnant 2 months later. We had a miscarriage. My husband has kids from a previous marriage, and one 9 month old grandchild. I have no children. Went to a fertility specialist and was told that our best option was IVF due to my low FSH and egg reserve. We decided to wait and just see what God's will was, and then maybe in a year, pay for the IVF. Well, low and behold, we are pregnant now. I'm 5 weeks and one day naturally.

Oh my...that sounds a bit frightening! Are the tumors continuing to grow? I know nothing of this issue, so pardon my ignorance. Do they remove them when the baby is born? Or are they a pregnancy related ailment? I hope that it doesn't interfere with our ability to delivery vaginally! I've never had a c-section but I have a c-section sized scar from a surgery to repair my fallopian tubes and the pooch from it never went away! Plus the recovery time is much longer
I have to say that with my 1st delivery, I had NO idea what was REALLY going to happen. I didn't plan on a natural delivery, so I never took Lamaze classes. So I didn't know, until it was time to push, that you push as if you're having a BM and you can imagine what that means! That was the MOST MORTIFYING of the whole thing! I was also 25 and super attached to my dignity! LOL I mean, who wants to do that in front of your family, strangers AND your husband! When the 2nd one came along, I didn't really care. Fortunately, I only pushed twice and she was out so I didn't have to go through that again.
You'll be fine and you'll want to do it all over again. I mean, after all, if it was all that bad no one would have any after the 1st one!

Whoa! Congrats on your natural conception! I love to hear that, especially after we're told our eggs are no good (I was told that too)!! I am hoping for a sticky baby for you!!! Have you scheduled your 1st appointment/ultrasound to confirm all is ok?
@motleybabe sorry I didnt get back to you! OB went well had a check this last week, babies look good :-) (well kinda like aliens, but growing and good heartbeats!) @indianaalum thanks for answering, didnt mean to leave the thread hanging :-)
Yes RLP is totally normal and I'm glad I read about it, cause could have been scary random intense pains. Also found a cyst on each ovary, so have occasional ovary pain... but that doesnt concern me much either, need to drink lots of water or I get crampy, even down into my legs like menstrual... and that gets me a little nervous, also my thyroid was "suppressed" so hopefully, my med change will make the ute less irritable :-)
Hello everyone! I'm 11 weeks 3 days now. I'm in canada so I think the prenatal testing is a little different. I had a blood test a couple weeks ago and go back at 15 weeks to determine risk for downs. I also will go for the NT scan just before 13 weeks. So I've been patiently waiting. Then the last couple days I sort of started freaking myself out because when I lie on my stomach I don't feel anything. And I feel like I should. I don't know why I think that! Then I got a call from my doctors office. They want me to go get more bloodwork done. So now I'm freaking out about that. I know they would have the results from the last test (I can check online what the status is but this one they didn't give results for. Just said dr could call). I'll have to just suck it up and go do it tomorrow. I'm not even sure what they're testing for!
I forgot about the round ligament pain! I thought I was having appendicitis because of it during my last pregnancy! Haven't really had any issues with that yet!
Did you go back to the doctor?
I will have my NT Scan and MaterniT21 test at 11 weeks. So I'm in the 'impatiently waiting' pool!
I would be freaking out a tad if my doctor wanted me to return, with no real explanation! I hope it was something as simple as they 'didn't get enough blood' the first time. Please let me know how it went!
I didn't go back to my doctor. I just went to the lab and it was for the original blood work and urine test (that I did at the beginning of June) blood type, checked for anemia, Rh status, syphyllis, HIV, etc. I'm not sure why I had to redo them. They got some results the first time because they called and said I was anemic after the first one. So weird! The woman who took my blood said the doctor wouldn't get the results from the first blood test until they had the second one. So totally unrelated! I go for my ultrasound next Wednesday and see my doctor the next day. So hopefully we'll get some answers! How are you doing? When's your due date? I read and post from my phone so I have trouble remembering all the details for everyone! Depending how I calculate mine is between January 29 and February 1.
Well it sounds like they just needed some more blood. Hopefully that eased some fears for you!! How exciting you get your ultrasound next week!! I have just over 2 weeks to go.
I'm 9w4d and due on Feb 16th, so we're pretty close in gestation!!
I'm in Vancouver, Canada. It's nice to "meet" people going through the same things as me! My friends have all had kids closer to when I had my others. So far I feel like I'm going to be doing this alone this time! I've already had 2 ultrasounds but it doesn't seem real yet to me somehow. I think I'm more worried about genetic problems than I realize. I'm hoping the NT scan helps me. Then I think I could tell people and it would be more real! It seems like I've been editing for this appointment forever. I'm sure you feel the same way! Yours will happen before you know it!
I am not pregnant but we are trying to decide weather to play this game again. My oldest son is 24 years old, our daughter is almost 12 years old and our youngest son is 15 months old.
I am 42 years young. My husband is 36 and would love to have one more. I am on the fence, my biggest fear is if I could handle 2 little ones. As you see I spaced my kids about 11 years apart.
My pregnancies are not hard, other than with my last I did have gestation which was controlled by diet only. I only gained about 3 LB yep that's right a whopping 3 pounds. And am now smaller than I was pre pregnancy.
Any one care to either talk me into this or scare me out of it. I know nobody can tell me what to do.. but some input from fellow "older" moms who have walked this line would be helpful.
@capstone52501 I am all for more kids, but Iam FTM with a loss at 17 weeks last year. I have always wanted a big family, but Mr. Right took his time showing up ;-) It took us a year and some help to get pregnant this time, and I hope it will happen again.... obviously your situation is different, but I definitely think siblings are important. So a little one for the 15 mo old seems like a good idea :-)
I'm 40 (41 11/14) this is our first. I was busy doing the work thing, and we wanted to be financially secure before having children. So far we had some bleeding which ended up in a blessing of seeing our lil peanut at 10 weeks. An amazingly strong heartbeat and perfectly on schedule. I sometimes wish we'd started sooner but now I have the freedom to be home when I don't feel well. My family is very protective and most of the time I have my feet up and relaxing. Other then occasional nausea I don't even feel pregnant.
Hi! New here and wanted to check in. I'm 40 and 13 weeks along with our 7th child. Waiting on results of Materniti21 test and have NT scan scheduled for this week. Nice to join y'all here!
csjsmom - 1 more day until your ultrasound!! Hopefully after that, some of your fears go away. I know when I was pregnant with my daughter, I didn't feel comfortable until after that NT scan. I'm anxious to hear about your experience!
@hischell30 - Welcome! Glad to hear you have such a supportive family...that is soooo important!! What is your due date? Alot of us are due around February!
@sparkyit - Welcome!!! 7th child, huh! Whoa! What age range? Good luck in your Mat21 and NT results. Please post and let us know how they went. Are you planning to find out the sex with the Mat21? I have mine in 2 weeks and I'm totally finding out the sex!!
Well I had my NT scan this morning. It was different than other ultrasounds. The doctor (specialist) was in the room too and he had a resident so he was explaining things as we went along. Almost right away he said "look you can see some of the fluid at the back of the neck and I can already tell this one is normal" before she was even measuring it. Then he pointed out the nasal bone and also said the heart looked fine. So it was all good news! My doctor said she puts way more faith in this doctors findings on the ultrasound than on the blood tests. I'm doing the SIPS screen which isn't the same as the tests in the states.
YAY!!! Good news!! So happy for you!! What a relief huh? Now you can relax and really enjoy it!!! Yay, Mommy!!!
My NT scan and Mat21 is on Aug 5th..so 13 more days for me. ....seems like an eternity....
We have that test here in the States too, it's called a Quad screen and is performed in combination with the NT scan. I don't think I'm having that, since I'm doing the Mat21 and it's more reliable than the Quad. The SIPS is a little unnerving because it gives you a ratio that is based on your age, so it freaks alot of moms out. (That's why I'm not having it done this time around)
I am 42 and 39+3 with my first! I am so excited and scared to death at the same time. Doc says my weight is good and blood pressure is normal, so all I have to do now is wait. I just had hoped that she would be showing her sweet little face by now. I have read many stories about women over 40 going into labor early, but it appears that I will be on time or even late. Wish me luck!
@KPatton711 - Omigoodness..you are just hours or days away from meeting your little girl!! Eeeeekkkk....how exciting!!
Sounds like all is well. I know you're ready for it to happen already!! Those last 4 weeks are brutal!! I was 41 weeks with my son and he only weighed 5lbs 1 1/2 oz and I was induced. With my daughter...I just could not hang with being pregnant anymore and my doctor took pity, inducing me at 39 weeks....she weighed 6lbs 13oz. This time around, I'm going to try really, really hard to let my labor happen on it's own because I really want to experience spontaneous labor and delivery. But I won't be to hard on myself if I cave and ask to be induced because I'm so miserable! LOL
Much luck to you!! I wish you a wonderful birthing experience. Please come back and let us know how it went.
I turned 41 earlier this month, a week after our son turned 2 :-) Today I am 28 weeks with baby boy #2 (due date Oct 17) I had a partial molar pregnancy last October ending in a D&C at 9 weeks. Hubby and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on Aug 6.
Im 40, will be 41 in September. This is my 5th child, 6th pregnancy. My oldest DD will be 28 on Aug. 13th. My oldest Ds is 24, then I have a 7yr old DD and 23 month Ds. I wanted to be done. My husband is beyond happy. It took a couple of days, but I know God won't give me more than I can handle. So this baby is due on March 15th. I think it's a girl. I get sick with my boys and no sickness here.
Hi, I don't usually comment but wanted to share as well. I'm 44 and 5 wks along with our 3rd. Our boys are 3 and 20 months old. I had them at 41 and 42. My history is a miscarriage in '95, an ectopic pregnancy in '05 and 8failed artificial insemination attempts. We had completely given up and were trying to adopt when I found out I was pregnant with our oldest son. I thought I had an ulcer. What an amazing surprise!
Hi I'm 45 and due on the 24th March 2015 so still very early 6 weeks tomorrow to be exact! This is my fourth pregnancy my children are 19, 16, and 14 I'm really nervous and would love to chat to women in the same position as me xxxx
Hi All, new to this board and wanted to check in. I am 42 (will be 43 at delivery - yikes!). I had a mc in February and was not expecting to get pregnant again; I had told DH that I didn't want to take a chance again after the m/c but I guess if I got pregnant again so quickly then it was meant to happen! I had a BFP on Saturday, have my first prenatal appt scheduled and have just had thyroid tests done - I am hypothyroid and my thyroid went all wacky the last time so I will be monitored very closely during this pregnancy. DH doesn't know yet - he will find out on Friday when he comes back in from out of town.
Hi I'm 45 and just found out I'm pregnant naturally. This will be my fourth child. I too am with a new partner and have been for just over a year. I'm really scared but over the
I am also 45 and am pregnant naturally. This will be my second child. I had my first at age 24. I will be 46 next month and am 6 weeks pregnant. I am really scared about the whole thing. Although I am excited, it is a shock. What I find odd is that I don't have my first doctor's appointment until week 10. Is this normal?
@boxermama2 I am hypothyroid, too. Every month has been a dose change. My first pg the OB thought she could manage it by checking once a tri. This time I have an Endo drawing blood once a month, much happier with the closer monitoring :-) I'll be 42, FTM with twins! And my hubby gets back later today, too, from Seattle. We are 14 weeks. @Thoward1968 my OB sees his patients at 8 weeks, not before. By 10 weeks you should be able to get a good ultrasound. I hope you have met with someone to get the low down on prenatals and such, I have had that done by women's health nurse prior to OB each time. Congrats! @motleybabe- you should start a group :-) This thread is getting long! Or weekly check ins? New discussions.... how are things going for you lately, I havent checked in for acouple weeks :-)
Sorry I've been MIA lately. Work has been crazy and that is the only time I get online. By the time I get home and have dinner, all I want to do is veg on the couch!
Welcome to the newest ladies and congrats on your pregnancies!! Seems "Over 40" mommas are rockin' it!!
@bigboneded - How do you start a group? Not sure I want that repsonsibility! LOL
Update on me: I had my NT scan and MaterniT21 test yesterday. As you all know, I won't get the Mat21 results for a week or so but my u/s went great. Baby has a great heartbeat, the nuchal space was 1.2mm and the nasal bone present. There was ALOT of kicking and moving, which was really great to see and we heard the heartbeat for the 1st time while we watched it beating on the screen. A truly magical moment!
Now, I can breathe a little easier. I am fairly positive that the only results I care about from the Mat21 test now, are the sex chromosome! We plan to have the results mailed to a baker to make a cake based on the results, then do a reveal with it to the family and ourselves!!
Hi. I'm 39. My dd is 12/17. I will be 40 on 12/6. We conceived naturally after about 4 months of trying. This will our first child, a son. Due to a sticky insurance situation. We didn't have our first OB apointment until 14 weeks. Because of my age. I was immediately considered an elderly "high risk" pregnancy. Super scary! We had an appointment with a Genetics Counseler and decided to do the Amniocentis. Amnio was the easy part, the wait was excruciating. 2 whole weeks of crying and not knowing. Thank The Lord, our results were normal and confirmed we are having a boy. What a relief! But than at our 18 week ultrasound I find out I have marginal placenta previa. Which I'm hoping will move. But is very common in elderly pregnancies. They also couldn't get a great pic of his feet in the 18 week US. This is really freaking me out. I'm told through fellow Mommy's that 18 weeks is early and some doctors won't even do an US until 20 weeks. Baby's feet were probably tucked under or hiding. Of course in this Google age. I've read every possibility. Now at 20 weeks I really feel him moving and kicking. I don't know if waiting 39 years to be a Mommy is helping. But I'm happy to have fellow Mommy's understand my journey and fears.
Hi ladies! Glad to be in the 40 and pregnant club >- 6 weeks and 2 days. Ultrasound is Thursday so I find out how many beans I have, one or two. I did ivf and things are looking good so far. Happy for everyone on this thread!
I am 41 FTM. I didn't get married until I was in my mid 30's. DH and I wanted children but were not putting a lot of effort into trying. My doctor suggested fertility treatments which we never followed through on. It just naturally happened for us.
I already had the NT scan and received the results of Maternit21. Everything came back normal. We also found out out little bundle is a girl! I have the anatomy scan scheduled at the end of the month.
Congrats to everyone. It is really nice to be able to connect with women my age who are going through the same thing.
Re: anyone over 40?

My pregnancies are not hard, other than with my last I did have gestation which was controlled by diet only. I only gained about 3 LB yep that's right a whopping 3 pounds.
Any one care to either talk me into this or scare me out of it.
I know nobody can tell me what to do.. but some input from fellow "older" moms who have walked this line would be helpful.

Anyone else have appointments going on this week?
My NT scan and Mat21 is on Aug 5th..so 13 more days for me.
Congrats on the wonderful news!

Congratulations!!

Hello,
I am also 45 and am pregnant naturally. This will be my second child. I had my first at age 24. I will be 46 next month and am 6 weeks pregnant. I am really scared about the whole thing. Although I am excited, it is a shock. What I find odd is that I don't have my first doctor's appointment until week 10. Is this normal?
How is everyone else doing? Feeling?

until 20 weeks.
