Re: GTKY poll (non-IF related) :)

  • Hey Ladies! (Have been sorta quiet this week but I am still here!)
    ** Children Mentioned in 5**

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Kalamazoo, MI (Yes there really is a Kalamazoo) The thing I love most about my City is that my family is here. My DH family is here as well. Probably literally the only thing keeping us here. We would hate to be far away from them. I also love that we are halfway between Detroit and Chicago and either is an easy day trip drive!

    2) What do you do for work?
I am a Unit Clerk at a Senior Living Community. (Glorified Secretary) I absolutely enjoy it though. I also have been a Nurse Aide for 12 years. NO INTENTION on EVER becoming a nurse *shudders* God Bless you nurses I couldnt put up with the shit you have to!

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
I read "Dorothy Must Die" most recently. I absolutely loved it! I cant wait til the next installment. I like to think of myself as an avid book reader. However I really like to read YA books since they are so much more innocent. I feel a lot of the genre of fantasy/romance  adult books really try to hard, I dont like to read really explict scenes. ANYWAY /tangent but yes I love books. (Plenty more if you need recommendations!)

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
Not many I have seen lately Maleficent was fabulous. (I am a huge Disney Villain fan) I however have been consumed with watching Dr Who. (I love Brits, Sci Fi, and David Tennant so what better combo could I ask for!) Its a bit corny but how I love it =)

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
We are having a backyard camp out at my parents this weekend. My parents, me and DH, Brothers and their spouses and the Grand kids. It should be a total blast! Then next friday me and DH are heading to Chicago to see Panic at the Disco *squee* (so many concerts this summer I know! )

I love reading all of these!  Sorry I'm a bit late to the party today.  I missed so much!

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Dallas.  I like the restaurant scene here, especially in our neighborhood.

    2) What do you do for work?  I work at an ad agency in the media department - so not the fun creative stuff everyone think of, but working with excel, negotiating rates for ads, etc.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?  I'm embarrassed to admit...but last weekend I read Courtney Robertson's book (from the Bachelor) I Didn't Come Here to Make Friends.  I'd heard it was juicy and it didn't disappoint - I know more than I ever wanted to about what celebrities are good in bed and who has a big penis

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
Lego Movie.  Started out slow, but I was all into it and crying by the end!

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?  In Denver with family, handling details after my grandfather's passing.

    Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
    IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN

  • Loved reading through these! Here's mine:

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Upstate NY, and my favorite thing about this area is the fall. The changing leaves and crisp air are beautiful, it's my favorite season by far.

    2) What do you do for work?
    I'm a psychotherapist.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
A book on family therapy-- I love my job a little too much, I do way more work-related reading than reading for fun.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
Someone else said "Her," but I just watched it and found it interesting and unique.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Going out to dinner tonight with my husband, other than that no real plans!

    Me: 27 DH: 35

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in CT, and absolutely love living in New England. I love the seasons and the small town feel, plus we are less than an hour from NYC.

    2) What do you do for work?
I am a kindergarten teacher, so I love summers!

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
    Teacher books- AH

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
DH made me watch Lone Survivor, he is a Marine, so he is super interested in all that kind of stuff. It was well done, just VERY gory in scenes for my liking. I watched a majority of it with my eyes closed.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
For my birthday, DH got us tickets to go see Justin Timberlake at Mohegan Sun, so that is tonight! We are very excited, then hanging in the sun on my parent's boat for the rest of the weekend. Enjoy ladies!

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
South of San Francisco on the peninsula.  I love how close we are to the city, the forest, the beach, the mountains...you name it, we got it!

    2) What do you do for work?
I am a project manager at a tech company.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
The last book I read was "This is How You Lose Her" by Junot Diaz.  It was meh.  His first book was better.  The one I read before that was "A History of Royal Scandals" which covered sex scandals in royal families all the way back to the Roman Empire.  It was really fun.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
The last thing I saw in the theater that I loved was actually the Lego Movie.  It was really sweet and totally appropriate even if you don't have kids.  I prefer TV to movies though and have spent the last week catching up on Doctor Who!

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Probably a hike, homework, and a baseball game.  Hoping my Giants can get their shit together and start winning again.  It's not fair to deal with IF and a shitty baseball team too.
Ha!  I'm a Texas Rangers fan and we have the worst record in MLB.  It's been a rough year!
  • @gsancho - I downloaded and read Courtney's book the 1st day it was released! And agree, it was really juicy. I liked her more after reading it. I'm a huge bachelor/ette fan! Are you watching Andi's season right now?

Btw last season I was SO lusting after Juan Pablo in the beginning .... and then he showed his true douche colors! ;) Reality Steve predicted that everyone would turn on him too.

I read The Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin, it's one of her older ones that I had never read, and I really enjoyed it.  I'm currently reading Quiet by Susan Cain.  It's a very informative book about people who are introverted and how our society favors those who are extroverts.  I'm finding it very interesting.

DH and I watched Larry Crowne on Netflix.  I thought it was really good!

@chasity08- I live 3 hours from you in KS!!!!!  I live 40 minutes NW of Manhattan.  I do make it to Lincoln 1-2 times a year for work stuff (our ICS/POS system is headquartered out of Lincoln).  I do want to make it to Omaha sometime, since I heard the new outlet mall in the SW corner of Omaha has a Coach Factory store.  I'm stoked to have someone on this board that is *somewhat* geographically close to me!  Squeeeeeee!!

    **WARNING CHILD MENTIONED**

@amylev80 - Oh my gosh I almost mentioned how I hoped someone lived near me because I'm a total creeper! buahaha! But I was actually just out at the outlet stores YESTERDAY! I walk around carrying my coach purse that I got on super clearance for like $50 so I can feel like I'm SOOO fab haha! But they have a nike store there that brings me out there most of the time. I went to get some shoes for my kids and got 2 pairs for $53 after tax! Crazy!

But I'm actually going to Kansas City this weekend for Worlds of Fun. Not sure where you are from there, but we go to KC probably 10-15 times per year. We are HUGE Chiefs fans! We got to at least 3 or 4 games per season. We love KC, but we love Omaha more. haha :)

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
-I live in the Pacific Northwest. Otherwise known as upper left USA, near Seattle :)
The thing I love the most about my town is how small it is and just how beautiful it is. We live right on the water and I get to see beautiful sailboats all the time.

    2) What do you do for work?
-I nanny for two adorable little boys who are super great.
EDIT: I forgot to add I'm also a photographer (who isn't). Not a "fauxtagrapher" but an actual photographer. I haven't been doing it a lot lately because there are just sooooo many photographers in my town

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
-I think the most recent book I read was the fault in our stars. It was okay. I realize that the author was trying to make it unlike any typical love story but to me it seemed like he was trying too hard to be witty.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
-gosh I don't remember the last movie I saw. I'm drawing a blank. But the show DH and I are finishing up is prison break. It's an old show but it's on netflix. I would highly recommend it. It's just so genius and clever.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
-not really. Just spending time with DH before he leave :/
  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Kentucky, but I'm moving to NYC in a week. Love that our current city has a great food scene. Looking forward to an even better scene in NY!

    2) What do you do for work? I work for a health insurance company. *ducks*

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
The Great Gatsby. Random curriculum change in 11th grade had me reading Winesburg, OH instead, and I never managed to pick it up until now. Loved it.
    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
Haven't seen a movie in forever, but DH and I plan to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel soon.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Going away festivities with friends and packing. Much packing.

    TTC since Jan '11

Me (32): DX PCOS, endo; DH (34): Perfectly healthy

IUI#1-IUI#4: BFN; moving to IVF as of August '14

    IVF cycle planning appt: 8/19

  • Love this! I'm in.

    1) I live in southern California. Before moving down here, DH and I lived in San Francisco for 8 years, so I'm still learning about our new city, and it's definitely a little tough since SF is (or at least was when we were there) the best city in the entire world. ;) So far, I'm mostly really loving the weather and being close to both of our families.

    2) I work for a DMV registration service. No, I'm not some miserable person who works at the DMV... we have a service that helps people and businesses circumvent those terrible encounters. :)

    3) I've been trying to get through The Night Circus for quite some time now. It's an interesting story, but not really a great book. Has anyone else read it?

    4) The most recent movie I watched was How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Relaxing is not really one of my strengths, but when I can, I'm all about watching mindless, light-hearted movies! I recommend it!

    5) This weekend, I'm planning to meet a friend for happy hour, go to a family friend's bday party, check out a new brunch spot with DH, and take my MIL shopping.
I listened to the audiobook.  It just didn't hold my attention though!  I think maybe I'm just not an audiobook person.  I agree, the story was interesting though.

August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in California, South Bay just out side of Los Angeles. I love being close to the beach and the constant 70ish degree weather

    2) What do you do for work?
I work in property management as a corporate office manager.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
Recent books... Hmmm... I have not read any novels but I do read my church magazine the New Era.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
I watched monument men last night and that was a really good movie.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
This weekend we are going to dinner with family that is visiting from Utah and attending a my cousins farewell as he is going a mission for two years for our church. ( I'm LDS/Mormon )
  • I will play too...

    1. Live
I am in Columbia, Missouri - GO TIGERS - right smack dab in the middle of the country. My favorite part of living here is being so close to my beloved Mizzou, Also, I am a huge foodie and fan of the farm-to-table movement, which can't be beat when you basically live smack dab in the middle of farmland USA. Another huge bonus - since we are in the middle of the country, we can get to any other part with a 3 hour or less flight, which makes long weekend travel fantastic (this is absolutely necessary when you live in the middle of nowhere).

    2. Work
I work in federal financial regulatory law... specifically Dodd Frank compliance with a national mortgage lender. Please try to contain your excitement and envy.

    3. Read
I have not actually FINISHED a book *other than my law school textbooks* in a very long time. The last one I finished was the final Harry Potter book and it was just as fantastic as the rest. I really hope J.K. Rowling writes a second Potter series, perhaps it can start with Harry and Ginnie Wesley's struggles to have perfect wizard babies. (I am thinking Voldemort, before his demise, likely placed a very strong curse on Harry's ability to create any new Potters.)

    4. Movie
I watched We Bought a Zoo on cable Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised...other than that, I don't think I have seen a movie since Don Jon which was absolutely horrendous.

    5. Weekend
I am heading down to Dallas (lived there for almost 10 years) to visit my friends and in-laws and to sit for the TX Bar Exam next week. I also plan to get my nails/toes done and eat a lot of Tex-Mex.

@chasity08- I'm about 3.5 hrs from Worlds of Fun.  I'm personally more of a fan of Oceans of Fun, but that's because rides make me sick.  :-&  I'm going to Lincoln either in late September or early October for a week-long work class.  I've wanted to check out that outlet mall soooo bad since it opened last fall!!  Unless I'm going to Lincoln for work, I don't end up that way.  I do go to KC every once in a while, but that's not terribly often either.  We may have to arrange a get together sometime!  :D  Its so nice to have someone so "close!!"

Oh my gosh I LOVE OOF! I cannot do roller coasters and that stuff. I just let DH go on those rides and I sit and eat my dip-n-dots haha! But I will go down a water slide at OOF like nobody's BUSINESS!

And we will definitely have to get a meet up sometime! Maybe when you're in Lincoln sometime or I'm in KC! That's so exciting!! :)

@triathlete23: I grew up just outside Milwaukee. I still go there to visit my family, most of whom still live in the area.

@LindseyM2012: My RE is in a NW suburb of Chicago.

@athlete010688: My trainer is in Indy.

@mjcbwlbaby: I'm working on photography skills to add to my

@MrsLolaSky: I am working on re-reading "On Writing." Parts of it are also relevant for non-fiction writing, which is what I do for a living.

Sounds like I might enjoy "What to expect when she's not expecting," based on the positive comments here.

    Anyhow, my answers:

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in east-central Illinois. I don't like it. There is next to nothing here. See above that I go other places for everything.

    2) What do you do for work?
I work in public affairs for a computing thinktank--writing, photography, a bit of marketing. I'm also trying to drum up some freelance work to broaden my experience. (Anyone know of anyone who needs some writing or simple photography services? :-P)

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
Let's see... I'm in the middle of Stephen King's "On Writing," Helene Dujardin's "Plate to Pixel" (about food photography), and Susan Linnet Cox's "Photo Stylist." I have no idea which book I most recently finished. Maybe Philippa Gregory's "The Queen's Fool."

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
    Nothing recent.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Sleep! Maybe host a party for my jujutsu dojo. Clean the garage.

Definitely clean the kitchen. DH was not having a good night last night. He kindly cooked the meatloaf I mixed up a couple of days ago since I reinjured my back yesterday, but used flat cookie sheets that let meat juices run into the oven. I didn't notice for a while since I was laying on the floor to let my back relax. Then meat juice spilled all over the kitchen when he tried to fix the problem. Later he was using cocoa for something and the lid came off the cocoa container, spilling cocoa all over the counter and our cooking utensils. *Not* a good night for DH.
