Heartburn help

Hi all, I'm just about 20 weeks and the heartburn started to hit hard a few days ago. Anything you've tried that helps ease the burning sensation? Tums isn't really doing the trick. I'm trying to heed the preventative advice of small meals and not eating greasy/spicy foods, but I'm not finding a lot of tips on what to do once it's already a symptom. I would appreciate any tips, thank you!

Yogurt and sleeping in a recliner worked for the most part for me.

  • Bananas and sitting up, not laying down. Also, you have to be preventive with the small meals. I get it really badly if I deviate a little fro the rules. Good luck and feel better!

  • Thanks for the advice--I never thought milk/yogurt might help, I'll try that. I have to admit I haven't been strict about the small meals, so will be better about that as well!

  • I was on Zantac too with my first and it did wonders! Thankfully my heartburn hasn't been to bad this time but if it flailed up again I'm taking it! It was amazing!!
  • The funny thing is I've had stomach issues all my life and have been on my share of antacids, both prescription (for a similar issue @amw0914) and non, but the quality of this heartburn feels different. Pregnancy is full of new discoveries! I'll check with my doc about this too. Thanks again for all the great advice.

  • I sleep/lay on my left when it gets bad. The AlkaSeltzer chewables are working for now. As PPs, milk or other dairy products help as well as chewing gum.

  • I take zantac before bed ever night.  If not, I'm throwing up stomach acid in the middle of the night and morning.  I've had to do this for my other two pregnancies too.
  • Zantac over here too! I also like the immediate relief of mylanta.
  • Papaya enzymes help a lot!
