Hi all, I'm a mom of 4, I BF'd and supplemented with all of them. I had gastric bypass in 2008 (after having the 1st 3) and had my 4th last summer. I really tried hard to EBF with her, but couldn't seem to ever produce enough. It was frustrating. Despite domperidone, lactation cookies, the right diet, tons of water, skin to skin, on demand feeding, etc, it seemed like nothing would work.
I am really really wanting very much to EBF the one I'm pregnant with now but afraid that my history with the WLS is the hindrance. I did everything my OB told me to and it seemed like nothing worked.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a resource for my situation? I have googled and pinterested. It really isn't covered much for as mainstream as weight loss surgery or breastfeeding are.
Re: EBF after gastric bypass
did you see this article? it seems to have some pertinent info: https://www.meltingmama.net/wls/2006/07/breastfeeding_a.html
are there any gastric bypass forums? maybe posting there would help you to find other moms in a similar situation? or maybe a local support group?
i'd definitely recommend finding a lactation consultant (or maybe a nutritionist?) who can help you out with this. it's great you're being so proactive. best of luck!
