Update! Beta purgatory (BFP and possible CP warning; XP from TTGP)

I don't even know if I used "purgatory" correctly. But whatever.

My beta on Friday was 64, and today it was only 176.6. That's a doubling time of about 82 hours. My nurse said they were a little low (obviously), but not to worry (yeah, right). I go back on Friday to see what's going on.

I am so upset. It seems pretty hopeless that this will work out. Any thoughts?

I'm supposed to go to the wedding of a very pregnant friend this weekend and I start having teacher meetings next week. The thought of doing either of those things right now makes me want to vomit.

Update: Omg they doubled! They went from 176.6 to 344.4 for a doubling time of 46 hours! I'm still feeling cautious, but so relieved. I go back on Monday to check the levels again. I can't even begin to tell you how much I've appreciated your support. I told my husband how amazing you guys have been and he said I should bake you cookies. :-)

    I'm so sorry, this is a situation that no one deserves to be in! I can't even imagine the pain you are experiencing right now.

    I'm not sure if you feel better just waiting it out, or keeping up hope. If it makes you feel better, perhaps if you had multiple follies, the first number was from 2 of them and the second number indicates that one was sticky? 

    I really hope for the best! Isn't it almost far enough along to see something on ultrasound and let you know that it's at least not an ectopic pregnancy?

    @BunnyBerry Thanks. I only had one follicle. :-( It's still *possible* that it'll work out, but I'm not sure how likely. I think it would be at least another week before anything could be seen on an ultrasound.

    Sorry you're in beta hell. My RE's nurse said that it can go either way if the beta doesn't increase as expected, so you're not out yet. FX

    That "try not to worry" thing is a load of crap. Then I'll worry that I'm worrying and everything will go to hell.

    I think escapism is in order. Any movies or activities you find completely absorbing?

    ETA: My RE said that a c/p is a good sign, more or less, even though it doesn't seem like it at the time. Usually they are a result of a chromosomal abnormality and indicate that you can at least get as far as fertilization and early implantation.

    ** Geeky stats I tell myself when I get frustrated. Skip if you don't find comfort in calculating the probability of your situation.**
    Even with an optimistic 20% chance of ongoing pregnancy per cycle, you haven't quite hit a 50% chance after 3 IUIs. If you assume a somewhat more conservative 15% chance, you're not even to a 40% chance of ongoing pregnancy. Most estimates I've read fall in the range of 10-20% chance per month, depending on personal circumstances. And from what I've read (in scientific studies, not popular articles of questionable sourcing), something like half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage or c/p; many of these go unnoticed in the absence of close monitoring.

    Moving on to IVF. (Why we're moving on to IVF)

    IVF#1 (w/ICSI): BCP 9/9-9/23. Gonal-F, Ganirelix, Low-dose HCG (antagonist protocol). 41R/35M/32F... 2 transferred on 10/14, 14 frosties! On cabergoline to help avoid OHSS. BFN, possibly because of 90% drop in estrogen and progesterone a few days after ET.
    FET#1: Transferring 2 on January 8. BFP! beta#1 (1/17): 408, beta#2 (1/20): 1310, first u/s scheduled 2/5

    I know how it feels to be in beta hell.  When I was dealing with questionable betas I heard A LOT of promising stories, and then of course the not so promising ones.  The "don't worry" advice is crap and not even an option when you have had to try so hard to get where you are.  My advice is to just keep hoping, and know that many women have gone on to have successful and healthy pregnancies with low betas in the beginning.  Allow yourself to worry, but try not to let it consume you.

    I'm so sorry you are in this awful wait. fx that the time passes quickly and ends with good news!

    Currently testing for infertility cause and hormone imbalance.
    Infertility & ovarian cyst diagnosis: May '14
    B/W: 'good', more ordered to check antibodies & progesterone
    SA: Normal :)
    U/Ss for cyst: who the f knows
    DH's cat scan: showed encapsulated fatty growth; u/s: didn't really show much more
    Breast Specialist: Most likely a large fibroid, but keeping an eye on it, repeat u/s every 6mos 
    HSG: clear tubes, uterus is A-ok
    WHAT'S NEXT: DH's consult with surgeon to discuss next step for growth, either biopsy or surgery~Big discussion with Dr. before any possibility of starting Clomid, since I'll want another u/s before and to be monitored and he doesn't seem into that. I had to force his hand just to order the AMH test so may be looking for another OB

    We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013. 

    11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good. 

    12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

    12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

    Him - Borderline low sperm count (correcting through Fertility Blend supplement)

    First appointment with RE 10/2013.  
    April 2014 - Clomid 100mg CD3-7.  HCG shot CD10 IUI #1 done on 4/12/14 (CD12) ....BFN
    May 2014 - Break cycle to repeat saline sonogram and re-group.  Travel to Kauai 5/7-5/12 (Yay!!)
    June 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD4-8.  HCG shot CD14.  IUI#2 done on 6/9 and 6/10 (CD15-16) w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW .... BFN
    July 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD3-7.  Ultrasound CD12 - 4 mature follies! HCG trigger shot CD12 AM.  IUI#3 on CD13 w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW ....BFN
    July 2014 - Repeat ultrasound done to measure size of fibroid - 8x9cm (the size of a grapefruit!) Surgery referral made.
    August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
    August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!  
    November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found).  Benched x 3 months

    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.

    IVF#1 (w/ICSI): BCP 9/9-9/23. Gonal-F, Ganirelix, Low-dose HCG (antagonist protocol). 41R/35M/32F... 2 transferred on 10/14, 14 frosties! On cabergoline to help avoid OHSS. BFN, possibly because of 90% drop in estrogen and progesterone a few days after ET.
    FET#1: Transferring 2 on January 8. BFP! beta#1 (1/17): 408, beta#2 (1/20): 1310, first u/s scheduled 2/5
