Anyone not ever feel contractions?

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy, 1st baby went in for check up and was 5cm without having a clue. 2nd baby same thing except I was dialated to a 6. Now I'm 32 wks dilated to a 2- and 60% effaced and on meds to stop preterm labor. Has anyone else had this where you don't know you're contracting?? Makes me worried I won't know when the baby is coming!

  • How'd you feel the others coming???

  • what made you go in for checkups the other times?  I assume if you are being seen weekly your doctor would know if you were in labor.

  • With DS I only felt contractions when labor started.  With this LO, it's BH all the time!

  • It wasn't me, but a girlfriend I have.  She didn't realize she was having contractions with her first, she just felt like she had gas pains.  She ended up going in to get checked because what she had taken for the gas pain wasn't helping and it was starting to hurt worse. She was 5cm dilated already and had no clue about it. They say you will *know* when you're in labor but this girl's story scares me to the bone and she keeps swearing up and down to me that she's not the norm and I shouldn't freak out.

  • I was 90% effaced & 3cm for weeks & had no clue with dd#1. Each time i dilated i was clueless. I could tell when i went into active labor at the end though but labor was pretty fast. Right now i'm 70% effaced but not dilated yet & not on any meds. I'm 32wks today. I will be checked in 2 weeks but i'm having lower back pain.

  • I dilated pretty far with DD without much trouble.  I felt contractions, but they were basically just like moderate to bad period cramps.  I can't imagine not knowing you're in labor the last couple hours though.  It becomes really, really, REALLY obvious.   :)  Everyone is different, though, and I know it can happen fast for some people at the end.

  • Oh thanks for the imput- I forgot I check for responses! I got to 6 and got an epi both times because I was afraid to feel the pain of pushing (not afraid to admit I was scared!) I have to be checked weekly by my doc. Just curious about your stories. Thanks!!
  • I didn't feel mine.  When I went in for my 38 week appt with DS1, I was 5 cm, so they sent me to the hospital.  They broke my water and gave me pit.  Even then my contractions weren't that great and it took 3 hours to push him out.

With DS2, I felt pressure and back pain.  I was almost 39 weeks, so we went to the hospital.  I was 4 cm, so they admitted me.  Ended up having them break my water and giving me pit.  I also had an epi.  Pit worked much better that time.  The epi wore off and I had back to back horribly painful contractions.  I pushed him out in 20 min.

  • I know SOs cousin with her 3rd didn't feel hers. She went to the hospital a week early thinking her water broke, but she just peed on herself. Then at her next Dr. Appt her doctor asked if she was having contractions yet and she said no but when the doctor started touching her stomach to feel baby the doctor was like "I can feel you contracting" so off to L&D she went. Her water broke 2 days after being there but she told the nurse it wasn't her water she just peed again. After being tested though, it was infact her water.

Also similar happened to me last Friday I was having "gas pains", and after 24 hours what I took for it wasn't helping at all so I went to get checked out. I was having contractions, but what they gave me to stop them worked almost immediately and I've been fine since!

I don't think as many women *know* they're in labor as the doctors and such like to think!

  • I had the nurse at my last appointment talk about how she didn't feel a thing until it was time to push. Lucky biotch.
