Baby Names

Names you love but wouldn't use

Random poll - what are some names you like, but would never use for one reason or another (too popular, too trendy, unprofessional, someone "stole" the name etc)

My list:

Isabella, Mercedes, Raven, Whitney, Vivienne, Xander, Lourdes, Stone, Priscilla, Alexis, Gabe, Gage, Sydney

I've always LOVED Sydney, but my good friend used the name last year on her DD.  Crying

  • Henrietta--I love it, but I'm afraid she would get teased to death.

Imogene--I love it, my husband doesn't.

Sunny--I think this one speaks for itself.

Hadley--doesn't go well with my daughter's name.

Sunny's such a cute name too, lol

I forgot to add Ryder.  I love that name, but someone told me it would end up a popular trailer park name in 5 years and it scared me to death.

  • Kaia Juliet

I love it, but would never use it.  It's too unusual and I've never found anyone who likes it.

Hadley--doesn't go well with my daughter's name.

I don't see why it wouldn't. They're both cute names!

I love the names Gabriel and Jesse for boys and DH shot  both of those down. But we easily decided on our little girls name and don't have to worry about naming a boy for a while.

  • I LOVE Harlowe... but it doesn't go well with our last name and the celebrity thing bugs me.

Addison because it's way too trendy. Dakota... my roommate in college named her dog this. I so wish Aiden wasn't so damn common/popular. I loved it years ago and now it literally makes me barf.

I fear that people would start calling them Maddie and Haddie.  I can't be a party to that. lol
  • Johannah: my H and I both love this name, but we can't agree on how to pronounce it! We're both immovable on our opinion, therefore we can't use it.

Harrison and Henry: there's some famous people with those names and the same last name as us.

Emily, Emma, Sophia, Logan: love them, but soooooo popular.

  • Grover - i love it, but could not do that to my son b/c of the blue monster :)

Dh and i both love the sound of "Gingham" but again, would not do that to our kid.... if it wasn't a material, i think it would be a cool name.

Grace.... too common - and does not go with our last name one bit (our last name sounds a little church-ish)

  • Boy - Julian, but I'm afraid he would get teased.  Its kinda girly

Girl - Katarra.  But its from a cartoon show and we already named our cats for two other characters on the same show.  That would just be really wrong...  :)

  • Kaia (saw someone else post this name - I love it, DH hates it)

    Kayla (too popular)

Kenzie (I don't like McKenzie and I know people would assume it's a nickname)?

    ?

  • We both loved the name Paisley for this baby but couldn't bring ourselves to do it. And it's a good thing, because a lot of people we know seem to think "Leah" is unique. Huh?

Tess12, I love the name Hadley. It was the name of Ernest Hemingway's first wife, the one he always said he loved the most. I think it goes with Madeleine!

  • Harper--rhymes with our last name

Madison and Jack--already used on our dogs

GiGi--was told it was a "hooker" name

Daniel, Dakota, Cody--all former students who were loco!

    Leah's a gorgeous name!

I first heard "Hadley" in connection with the story about Hadley Hemingway losing the manuscripts.  I've loved it ever since.

  • Poppy.   I adore this name, and can only imagine the teasing and I also believe it's not a good resume name.

    And, we're not British.

I LOVE Poppy and we're not British either, lol. Even DH liked it but, alas, we're not having a girl and I just can't do that to a boy.

I love Coleman, Julius, Evangeline, Beckett, Giselle, Ruby, Pearl, Ellis ... DH won't even consider any of them. BOO to DHs!

  • Kyan- I always loved it but DH said no way.

Addison for a boy- loved this for years but it's become so popular for girls even though it's a boy name and has the word SON in it.

Leah- was my favorite girl name but a good friend used it a few years back

    Eliana- DH doesn't like it

  • Ava, Sophia, Olivia, Layla are all to popular for me, but I love them

  • I have a long list of "can't" or "won't use" and no "will use" names yet! (I've got 250 days, though) But:

Olivia, Ava, Grace, Emma, and Isabella - I LOVE them all, but they've gotten really popular and I value unusual names (I love that I don't know anyone else with my first name).

Annalivia - love that James Joyce, but this is just too long.

Harry, Collin, Holly, and Helen - they all sound horrible with our last name.

  • I love Karson for a girl, but DH said absolutely not.

  • Rosellina, Bellina (Lina for short), Francesca. I love them but they just sound a little too...much for an actual baby.?

    I also love Madeline, but it's DH's ex-wife's name, so that one's out. ?

  • I love Haden for a boy but it's become way too trendy and gender neutral.  I like it more as an old man sort of name.

I'd also never use John because of our last name and especially because of my name.  Actually, if I was doped up enough I might, but would call him by his middle name.  I've also joked about using Adrienne, which is a name I really like, just because of my DH's name.  I don't think I could actually do that though.

Too funny!  Grover is still on my list of possible names, but I don't think I'm going to get DH to budge on it.  He thinks nothing but blue monster, but I bet it's a name a kid would really grow into.

Grace is one I like but would never use.  It has important meaning to me but it's WAYYYYY too popular.  (And Epphd would never forgive me.)

Jonas - again, has personal meaning to me, but the damn Jonas brothers ruined it!

Badger - quit laughing.  I loved it when my brother was naming his son and we jokingly tossed it around.  I know it's ridiculous and I don't think I could ever do that to a baby, but I think it's a great name.

Timothy, Jeffrey, Gregory (all DH's cousins)

My daughter's name is Evangeline! ?It was literally the only girl name DH and I agreed on.

I love the name Ava, but it's way too popular. ?I also really like Hope, Ruby, and Simone but DH hates them all.

  • Eeek!!!  My DH and  i like linus, too, but aren't sure how it would be taken.....  :)
  • addison for us too....my dh love, love, loves it, but i have a hard time b/c it's sooooooo popular

  • i love ryder....but won't use it.  (it reminds me of the actor Ryder Strong, from Boy Meets World.....dreamy when i was 9) lol
  • last one...(sorry, thought my above posts were going to "quote" the people that mentioned those names)

frances jane for a little girl. i love it. DH, mom and grandmother hate it.  it's my gma's mn and mom's fn....i think it's pretty, but i'll never win that battle....

  • Stella-- I love this name but it reminds DH of the line in the movie "Stteeeellllaaaaaa!!!!" and the Seinfeld episode.  Anyway it's also the name of my SIL's cat.  And get this, it's a male cat.  Ugghh.  I really wanted that name.

Sophie---One of my friends named her daughter that and it's so popular

Sunny--loved it but I work with a lady Sunny and she is not so "sunny"

Daisy--cute...but reminds me and DH of Daisy dukes or Daisy the Duck.

  • Portia - some would say it sounds like a stripper name

Lourdes - everyone would think of Madonna's daughter first

    Elle/Ella - too darn popular
