Working out

I know my doctor has said it's safe to work out - specially since I was working out before. I'm wondering if it's ok to do fasted cardio in the morning while pregnant? I use to before and haven't done it since. But want to start doing it again. Or is it better to eat and wait until after to do cardio?

Re: Working out

  • Yeah, it's ok to do fasted cardio while pregnant.

  • I still take a fasted walk in the mornings, but it's very low intensity.  Not sure I'd try any high intensity cardio, but IMO low intensity is fine as long as you feel good (and my doc said that whatever I'm used to doing is fine to continue).

  • You could try and see how you feel later. I typically have no problem being active before breakfast when not pregnant but now if I don't get something in my belly as soon as I wake I get really lightheaded and it affects the rest of my day.
  • I run 2-3 miles on a treadmill and I typically eat right something small, like fruit or a muffin, right afterwards. I make sure to drink a lot of water before, during and after my workout. Ask your OB obviously, but if your body is used to it, you should be fine.
  • There is no reason to do fasted cardio in the base case....only if you don't have time to eat before you go to the gym. It doesn't make one iota of difference in fat loss (but not now because that should not even be close to being on your mind at this time). Talk to your Doc....give it a try (if they approve) and see how you feel. If you feel woozy or faint, I would eat something before hand.
