Fussy at bottle during daytime only

My DD is 7 weeks old. She is formula fed, and is on Enfamil Gentlease, 3-4 oz atva time. She is super duper fussy during the daytime feedings only. At night, she's fine. It's the weirdest thing.

During the day it usually starts about a few gulps into the bottle. She starts screaming, red faced and all, kicking her legs like crazy. She's a really gassy baby, so at that point I try to burp her, sometimes give her gas drops in the middle of the feeding. I usually have to give her the paci to get her to calm down to try again. This can take up to an hour.

Doctor originally thought she had reflux, and she's been on meds for it for about 4 weeks now. Haven't noticed any improvement.

Why would she only be fussy like that during the day??? I don't get it -nor am I complaining, but I want to figure out how we can get her calm like that during the day also.

Any advice is appreciated!

  • Perhaps nipple flow, maybe the formula doesn't agree with her, maybe she hates the position you have her in when feeding. I hope it's just a phase :/

  • I was going to suggest nipple flow as well. Do you use the same type of bottles during your day and MOTN feedings? Our DD fusses when we use certain types of nipples.
  • I'm using Level 1 Dr. Brown's...maybe I will try Level 2. I just thought Level 2 flow would be too fast since it says for 3 month olds. I'm willing to try anything though!

  • Might be worth a shot. We're just now able to use Avent level 1, whereas before those nipples were too fast for DD (she's 11wks). We are using level 2 for the Como Tomo bottles though and we appear to be right in the middle of level 1 and 2 for Lifefactory. Nipple flow makes a big difference to our LO!
  • We recently switched to level 2 Dr. Brown's nipples because he was fussing a lot, mostly in the mornings. I was also going to suggest that she might have to poop during a feeding and trying to eat and poop can be distressing for babies. It's a lot to control the stomach muscles to push poop out and the rectum to relax at the same time. Some babies get overwhelmed. I know that is my guys problem sometimes.
