I started labor with uterine contractions which transitioned to back labor (baby was "sunny side up"). We managed to rotate him as he entered the birth canal using positioning techniques (I had good nurses). The back labor is really what made me decide I was ready for that epidural. I will never forget yelling at my husband to put counter pressure on my lower back. He was so confused about why my back would be hurting - I should have prepped him for that possibility..
@MrsRahl one of the L&D nurses told me she doesn't like rules about when to go in because every labor is different. She told me comeone could have contractions 7 minutes apart, but be pretty far along, or you could have them really close together for many hours. When I got to the hospital I was between 3 and 4, but baby was here in less than 3 hours. Sure glad I didn't wait any longer to go in!
