I thought this might be interesting since we all love names. Do you give your pets traditionally human names or names like "Spot", etc.? If you want to share, what have you named your pets and why?

We named our sweet cat Carmela, we actually did look at baby name sites for ideas although the Bump wasn't even on my radar then. First we chose Beatrix but it didn't fit her so a few hours later we changed it to Carmela. She passed away a few years ago but that name fit her perfectly and I still love it.

I would love to get two cats in the future and name them Hamish and Agatha.

We typically go for more pet names. Our dog is "Bo" full name Bojangles.
My cat was named by my ex, and is Japanese, so we just call her kitty. Lol
However, DH really wants a bulldog, and wants to name her an old lady name like Ethel, or Mable. I warned him these names are getting really popular with kids, but I don't think he cares..

We have Bear and Cody. Cody was adopted so he came with his name. They're long haired miniature dachshunds. Bear looked like a teddy bear as a puppy.

Growing up we had a Holly, Sandy, Socks, and Brooke.

I like both types of names for animals.

We have a gray cat named Sloane Rebekah Anne Peterson (Last name)

Sometimes we call her the whole thing (each name has a meaning but mostly it's a nod to Ferris Bueller's Day Off) but usually it gets shortened to Plooperson.

We have a Catahoula named Cana, and a yellow Lab named Oliver. I wanted something a little more exotic for O, I wanted to name him a soccer player's name. I was pushing really hard for Xavi but DH wouldn't go for it. I had told him that I thought the name Oliver was perfect for a goofy lab years before and he clung to it (I'm sorry any human Oliver moms!! No offense!).

) 2 dogs...Sugaree and Stella Blue...two of my favorite Grateful Dead songs. My next dog's name will be Ditka...although then we'll probably have to get another dog and name it something silly like Lombardi or Farve to appease my DH.

I am loving these names! I used to work at a pet shop and I loved hearing what people were going to name their pets. I also was a volunteer dog walker at our county animal shelter, pretty much the majority of dogs seemed to be named after beer brands for some reason.

We have dogs Josie, Stormy, and Rufus.
Josie is the only one we named, the other two we kept the names they already had.

Cat: Huckleberry, called Huck.

Dog 1: Archimedes, called Archie.
Dog 2: Agnesi called Aggie.

H is a math guy, so the dogs we've gotten together have math names. Our next may be a corgi names Chebyshev, to be called Chubby, or an Irish wolf hound named Tesla.

People names! Although our current kitty is JoJo. My cats in kitty heaven are Samantha Josephine and Chloe Noelle. I already have future cat names picked out - Ophelia and Odette; Venice and Verona.

My cat is Mortimer. I also had a George, but I had to rehouse him. Cats I named as a child were Rocky Road and Neko. My guinea pigs were Cuddles, Cuddles II, Bun, and Chartreuse.

I prefer people names for pets. When I was a child I had 2 goldfish, Eric and Ariel (I know, cheesy lol I have was maybe 4), we also had a precious cat named Sophie!! When I was older, although it technically was my grandparents dog (it was really a family dog with everybody, we lived in the same house at the time) no one could agree on a name so he ended up being Buddy, he passed away 2 years ago and was such a big part of our family!!!

My 3yo got a fish for her birthday. She named him "Sausage Fish". She originally wanted to name him "Daddy".

My first cat was Dolly (her shelter name) but she only responded to Kitty.

My second cat is Punkin. He's orange, so a lot of people think his name is Pumpkin.

My Saint Bernard is Piper - she was a rescue and it was the name she came with. My husband liked it because of his Scottish heritage and the relation to bag piper.

If I ever get a boy Saint I want to name him Mater, like Tow Mater!

A little background info. We are avid readers and H teaches English at a private high school.

Currently we have two cats Nick and Gatsby. We are getting a new kitten this weekend and it will either be Myrtle or F. Scott Fitzgerald with the NN Scott or Fitz.

They are all named for The Great Gatsby and the students get a big kick out of it. We are attempting to find names with literary connections for future DD/DS as well.

We've got two LaPerms; one white; Isolde (because it means "ice battle") and one black, Bastet, after the Egyptian goddess.

As a child, I had a gerbil named Thor. He was massive for a gerbil, easily the same size as a large rat, and was kind of reddish-brown in colour.

Two cats: Supertramp (Alexander Supertramp is his full name, DH named him after the movie Into the Wild) and Maverick (we thought it was a boy, actually a girl and the name just stuck)

Two dogs: Sullivan (I just liked the name) and Vedder (DH is a big Pearl Jam fan).

Almost always people names. When I was young, like 3-6, everything was named Peanut.

Growing up we had dogs named: Charlie, Robin, Dixie, Doug, Donald & Daisy, and Maya. We also had some with 'pet' names: Coco, Red dog, & Grandpa.

Cats were: Peanut, Blackie, & Rowdy.

DH & mine are- Dogs: Bella & Huey. Cat: Rocky.

My parents have dogs named Freckles, Skid, & Rac. Cats named Mama & Sammy

We do fandom style names too our cats are Sisko (for Capt. Benjamin Lafayette Sisko, DS9) and Feanor (the elf who created the Silmarils, Tolkien). We had a snake who recently passed away and her name was Nirvana (I'm a big Dave Grohl fan).

I tried to get H to name our dog Jerry. He said no. He knew it was after Jerry Garcia and he's not a GD fan.

H and I named our dog Ziggy. It took several days to come up with it. We had just gotten back from Jamaica a month before and I wanted to call him Marley but H said it was too popular. We were taking him for a walk and he was just zig zaggin all over the place so we came up with Ziggy. We mostly call him Zig or Zigmund.

My other dogs were Daisy and Jolie.

H's dogs: Lola, Chase, Marcie, Shannon, Bob, Jackie, and Meatball.

We have a pure white husky baby and her name is elsa. The breeders daughter was obsessed with frozen and called her elsa, so we just kept it because it fit.

We use character names! We currently have three cats:

Nessarose Margaret Hamilton - I'm a huge Wicked and Wizard of Oz fan. NN Nessa

Lambert the Sheepish Lion - husband named him after an old Disney short. NN Bert

Rue - Supposedly named after the Hunger Games character, but really I think it is actually my husband's subtle way of saying "I rue the day I let you bring a third cat home." NN Rueberry, Ruebles, or Stinker

We have weeeeird animal names. People side-eye them, but I don't care. Two cats: Orrin and Argos (Orrin is a Scots name meaning "white"; H named Argos for some reason I can't remember, but MIL calls him "Argyle"). Two dogs: Murdoch (goofy giant schnauzer mix) and Aiko (Shiba Inu mix, means "beloved child" in Japanese).

Our dogs are Bailey, Copper, and Brandy.

Our first dog is Bailey. She's a chihuahua/terrier mix. We had a hard time naming her and actually searched dog name lists. She was almost Winnie, but DH won out with Bailey.

Our second dog is a beagle, and his name is Copper. My best friend found him wandering the streets and was never able to locate his owner, but she wasn't able to keep him, so we stepped in. The friend named him after The Fox and the Hound, and we decided to keep the name.

Our third dog is a beagle/terrier mix named Brandy. She was adopted, and her shelter name was Daisy, but she didn't know that name, and we didn't feel like it suited her. DH came up with the name, but I don't remember how.

I have a beagle dog named Lolly Pop and two cats. One named Huckleberry but we call him Dick and another named Crocker but we call him Fraaank (gotta drag that 'a' sound out). My friend that lives with us now has a puppy that is named Julian, Ju for short. My BF has a great dane named Doll and we have a rabbit named Clover also. We have a lot of pets! My mom has a lot of pets too some I helped name. She has a cat named "I luh you Papi". It makes me laugh every time. She has dogs named Zelda, Link, Desmodo, Matilda, and Max. (I named Desmodo and Matilda)

The only pet I've ever had that I named myself was my hedgehog, Shadow, and I named him after a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games ('cause naming him Sonic would have been far too cliche!) My dog and my cat are Bailey and Bruiser, but they were already named when we got them.

My family tends to lean towards "pet" names as opposed to "people" names. My family's dog is Honey and my cousin's dog is Barkley.

Our dogs are Trevor and Darcy. They then have a middle name, the name that they had in the shelter, then my maiden name, and our last. So:

I've always had a thing for Greek Mythology, so my dog is Aphrodite (and without her I never would have met DH so she really is my goddess of love). My Dh's dog is Micah. DH named her for the mineral, even though that's spelled Mica.
