CPW: cruise control in residential areas

edited July 2014 in February 2014 Moms
Inspired by a constant debate in my house. Do you use cruise control when driving in residential areas? I'd consider that to be places where it's all homes and the speed limit is 30mph or below.

  • My h does because he's a speed limit fanatic. He got one speeding ticket, and now it's all cruise all the time.

I wish my DH would adopt that mentality. He's good for one ticket per year. :(

  • I only use cruise control when I'm on the interstate, AND on a long trip. (Like, if we are staying on that highway for hours). My commute is 30 minutes, and I sometimes take the interstate, but I don't use cruise control. I use it so infrequently it's always a little awkward the first time I try to set it (even though my car is super easy, with push buttons!)

Half a block from the house & DH has his cruise set. I think it's ridiculous. He also acts as if it's his job to "teach people a lesson" for driving like idiots (in his mind).
E.g. Driving slow in the left lane - he's going to tailgate you. Don't turn right on red - he'll creep up so close to your back bumper it's nearly touching.
Stupid and potentially dangerous and I wish he'd let it go.
  • @Bookshelves I always assume the jackwagons who are doing that on the open highway are the open road equivalent of trolls. They're just trying to get a rise out of you.

My favorite (and by favorite please interpret this as NOT favorite) is when someone, almost always in a fanceh Cadillac, is driving in the left lane 5-10 miles UNDER the speed limit. I hate passing on the right, so it makes me all nervous and then I do it and it's almost always two people just enjoying a leisurely drive... in the left lane.
I've heard you can get ticketed for this now in Washington state
