Vaccinations Help

OK ladies... give me your best tips/advice for dealing with the aftermath of vaccinations.  D had his first round yesterday and he is completely miserable.  C was a rockstar with his and never had any issues afterwards so I'm kind of at a loss here.  What are some things I can do to help comfort him?  His pedi said to give him a dose of Tylenol but I can't seem to actually get it to go down, despite using a syringe and squirting it far back in his cheek.  I've also tried putting him in a warm bath.  What else?  And does anyone know how long this misery tends to last?

You can massage the shot site to help with soreness. Also try blowing on his face after you put the medicine in, it should get him to swallow. Lots of cuddle time, and if your bf nursing is comforting

  • Give him the medicine really slowly. When I give DS gripe water I latch him on and put the syringe in the corner of his mouth and just add a little at a time. That way it isn't a huge amount of weird tasting liquid at once. Also try lukewarm baths, maybe a chilled bottle?
I thought about trying this but the thought of sticky cherry medicine going everywhere deterred me.  Maybe I'll try again.  Could I pump a little into a bottle and add the Tylenol to that?  Or no?

  • If you are going to give it via bottle we were told to do about 10mL an give it at the star of a feed to ensure they took it all.
My only real advice though is snuggles.

  • I have the same worry since LO will get 4 shots at her 2 months appointment. Last time she ended up on my nipple for like 3 hours before she was back to her normal self. While she was nursing, i put a slightly chilled towel on her thigh to numb the area. Not sure if it helped or she just got better.
