Petty Sh*t, Birthday related.

LONG STORY:
I've been so excited about LO birthday that I have had a theme and ideas picked out since two months ago...Mickey!! (I know, how original, right?). I took him to Disneyland and we had such a great time. We also got him a Mickey hat with his name, so a Mickey birthday seemed appropriate. :)

I made the mistake of sharing my ideas and excitement with my husband's niece, we'll call her "A". A few weeks ago I got word from "A" that another one of my husband's nieces, we'll call her "B", whose LO turns one a month before my LO does, chose to go with a Minnie theme. WTF!

If I believed it to just be a coincidence, I wouldn't be as bothered but this "B"-otch is known to pull this kind of crap with people. She's never liked me, always tries to one up me, is very jealous and competitive and is the kind of mom to ask about the way you do things only to criticize and offer her own opinion. She's younger than me by three years, but emotionally she's about 12.

My husbands family will be at both parties and will most likely side-eye me if I throw a Mickey party after she does a Minnie one.

I know, I know, it's so petty but I really want to sock her in the face right now. I also don't trust niece "A" anymore. I feel like she told "B" and "B" is chose Minnie to spite me. I've learned my lesson.

What would you do? Confront her, let it go, change the theme, keep the theme?

Sorry for the rant.

  • Agree let it go. We are doing Minnie and I wouldn't bat an eye if someone else in my family did it too.

  • Yeah sounds like you are way overreacting. It's just a bday theme. Frankly you both sound really immature.
  • Annoying, maybe? Worth sayin anything or getting worked up over, probably not. Have your party, enjoy your LO turning one and focus on that.

  • I know 2 people who recently had Minnie themed birthday parties for their daughters, right now the theme is what I've typically found in stores, Mickey and Minnie. Minnie stuff is all pink, bows, polka dots etc.. So Mickey will be reds and yellows and whatever else. You can still throw a great party that won't even resemble "B's".

I understand being frustrated and annoyed though, it does suck but I'm sure no one will bat an eye and if they do then that's just ridiculous.
  • Got it. Thanks to those that offered this sound advice.
