All of them are great! I know people that have gotten used seats and I can't understand risking it.
Also with number 2. I see so many people with infant head rests and strap covers on Facebook. I know that having the prodoct itself may not be dangerous but it voids your warranty. Insurance may not replace or pay for treatment if your child needs it. Not worth it.
Glad to see people taking note of car seat safety!!!!
Most seats come with some sort of newborn insert. Use that. No need to buy another.
I feel like most everyone is so car seat dumb and they do whatever they feel like bc it seems like common sense. It drives me nuts. Yesterday I watched a woman carry her child through the parking lot in a bucket seat. The car seat was at such an angle that the child was falling out/forward and he wasn't fully buckled in. The chest clip was undone and one arm was out of the strap. Wtf?! Kid had to have been in the car like that. Then she grabbed a cart and put the seat on top of the cart. I should have expected that poor decision to come from her.

I was guilty of this with DS1. I got the strap covers and the infant had rests. I seriously never heard that before N14 BMB. I get the warranty part but I still don't understand how it makes the seat any less safe or effective than the clothes (s)he's wearing. I've got some more googling to do. :-)
That's why I shared it. It covers some things that you don't see a lot.
I triple the recommended 'Car Seats for the Littles' Group. I am very feed, diaper, parent your kid how you see fit but carseat safety is totally one of the two parenting topics I believe has black and white do it this way because its the right way to do it rules.
On the topic of carseat safety that is discussed less, please don't put your infant seat on top of shopping carts, only safe place to put it is in the cart. I think alot of pqeople think its safe because they see alot of other people doing it. I never thought twice about it before having DS but when reading about carseat safety I read one too many articles about mom's who did this and the seat fell off when hitting a bump etc, and baby was seriously hurt or killed by landing face down on the ground strapped into their seat.
PineApple85 - Definitely a good source. FTM mother here and trying to do as much reading and research as I can about things. A friend recommended Car Seats for the Littles and it's a wealth of information. Didn't realize that there was so much I didn't know. Thanks for posting, it's great information!

It has a lot to do with the fact that it restricts how tight you can get the straps, which in turn makes it easier for the child to come out of the seat more in event of an accident, instead of being kept close to the inside of the seat. Some (a lot) don't pay attention to how tight the straps are and using the strap covers makes it worse. I think the strap covers are one of the less evil things you can do with a car seat. I personally hate the strap covers on the next fit but don't trust myself to take it apart and back together correctly just to remove them.
I bought infant head rests with DS1. The seat had them but his head was so small that it flopped sideways in the car and he screamed, so I bought the nicer ones and didn't worry about the warranty.
you can use rolled up receiving blankets to help position their heads (this is of course AFTER the baby is properly restrained in the seat). If the insert did not come with the seat, do not use it. It not only voids the warranty, but after market products are often not flame retardant, nor are they crash tested with any seat.
all of this exactly. it's much more than a voided warranty issue.
Re: Car Seat Mistakes - Good Read!
Definitely good information.
