November 2014 Moms

eating sweets

My mom guilt is already kicking in big time w/ my eating habits lately. :( Seems like I have to have something sweet every day!! if it's not oreo's and milk at bedtime (usually 4 cookies) then it's ice cream and things I used to be able to turn down like a morning donut, I find myself indulging in... I've had a donut for breakfast twice this week! Please tell me I'm not the only one and that baby will be fine and not 200 lbs. LOL

  • I am right there with you.  Before pregnancy, a sweet treat was a rare occurance for me.  I just didn't care for cookies and ice cream.   If I had a snack,  it was salty.  Chips,  or popcorn.     Now,  I cannot make it through the day without cookies, donuts or a candy bar.   Its terrible.

No wonder I have stretch marks on my ass........I just had Fiber One brownie.    Sweet tooth, plus fiber.....I am trying I guess.

I can't say you won't be 200 pounds though......I am right there with you.   Hoping everything will turn out just fine!    ;)

  • I've actually noticed that I have been wanting sweets more often. I wouldn't necessarily call it a craving, but I have been eating them more than I had been.

The doctor told me to lay off the cookies as I had gained 6-7 pounds in about 5 weeks though, so I have been trying to refrain from eating ALL THE COOKIES.

Before my BFP I was a very healthy eater, I actually tracked all my calories and exercise through an app on my phone. Since getting KU I've definitely NOT been tracking and been maybe a bit too lenient on myself.

I craved sweets like crazy with DS!  I had a baked good every day (often more than one).  As long as you're eating healthy overall, your weight gain is not out of control, and you don't have GD, indulge!

After 23 weeks of nausea, I"m not getting my sweet tooth back, and it's hard!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one. I guess we will all be finding out soon if we can continue indulging or not, LOL. I was 5'4 150 lbs when I got pregnant... and I've gained about 20 lbs at 22 weeks. :( So a little higher than recommended. Hopefully no GD though! I do tend to eat pretty balanced on my meals, so at least baby is getting nutrition and not straight sugar but some days more than others I feel like she's probably thinking, OH NO! NOT MORE SUGAR!

All I want is crap. Prior to this pregnancy I had list 50 lbs on weight watchers and kept it off for a year. I was hoping those eating habits would stick but I just can't do it. I have zero motivation to cook and I want carbs and sweets all the time. It really blows.
I had lost weight on WW too right before BFP! I lost 19 lbs and was a lifetime member. I was really disappointed because my club told me if you became pregnant they would freeze your membership then give you 3 months after delivery to get back to goal so that you wouldn't get charged. Turns out that is not the case and I had to totally cancel my membership. I'll be rejoining after baby, so if you do it too let me know and we can be each other's moral support!

WW is how I lost all my baby weight from DS plus 10 pounds!  I just did the online app, I haven't canceled it because I fully plan on starting up again once this baby comes.

  • I'm right there with you!
I was feeling guilty about having a blueberry muffin every morning after breakfast.
I also have ice cream or froyo about 2-3 times a week at night.
I try to stick in healthy meals to counter the sweets but I've been failing at that as well...just had a steak quesadilla with guac and sour cream!

I will say I think we'll be fine and our babies will not be 200 lbs!!
    :)

  • I gained ten pounds last month and it freaked me out, so I'm trying really hard to be mindful of what I eat. Im craving junk like never before- sweet and salty both! I normally hate fast food but craved it for awhile too- McDonald's and Dunkin donuts in particular. I've banned myself from both places now. I started carrying applesauce cups with me along with other healthier snacks, so when I'm tempted, I eat those first. It doesn't work all the time, but I figure every unhealthy thing I avoid eating now is good. Less crap going into the baby and the less fat I will have to deal with later. I just know I will kick myself later if I let myself indulge in everything now. I keep thinking of this woman who told me at my wedding that I was at the thinnest I'd ever be again. I was offended at the time since I weighed 10 pounds more than I had previously an was on track to get back down there, but so far she was right. I gained ten pounds after my wedding, then got pregnant.
Yep I put on the good ol 10 lbs after marriage too :(

You are not alone. Except instead of 4 oreos I will eat 1/2 the package...I'm addicted to the Lemon Oreos.
O.M.G. the lemon oreos are like crack to me.  I'm still in love with anything lemony and sweet, though.  I have a jar of lemon frosting sitting in the fridge that I eat straight out of...HA!

  • I have a huge sweet tooth, but I've been trying to keep it under control because I'm terrified of GD.

I also read somewhere (reliable - Fit Pregnancy maybe?) this week that what you eat influences the taste of the amniotic fluid which in turn influences what the baby will favor for foods when they grow.  Some study showed that women who ate a lot of green beans during pregnancy had children who were 3x more likely to like green beans as infants.

So that is what I think about...

  • I have always had a sweet tooth. I had a bit of willpower before BFP, but now I just want all things sweet or salty.

  • I have the biggest sweet tooth when NOT pregnant. I actually had a food aversion to most sweet things during 1st tri, then once that passed it was game on. Yesterday I devoured almost an entire bag of Kit Kat Bites in one sitting.

  • I eat ice cream every day - but try for only once per day. Otherwise I try to eat healthy with lots of fruits and veggies. I have always loved ice cream and I figure as long as I'm eating the majority of fruits and veggies, baby girl will love those too. And if she loves ice cream? Well then she will be totally normal. I think as long as you eat sweets in moderation and live an active lifestyle you will prob be fine! Don't beat yourself up over it!
  • Im so glad im not the only one! Not only am i constantly hungry but want something sweet at least once a day
  • I am pretty sure I subsisted mainly on Target cupcakes during my second pregnancy.  My son is very petite, has never gone over the 5th percentile for weight and LOVES vegetables :)

    There is hope!!

  • I gained 10 pounds last month, but I have a beast of a sweet tooth always.  I've been trying so hard to be good and eat better.  I'm trying to substitute cookies with fruit and raw veggies, but that's just not that same.  I usually eat ice cream once a day after dinner and try to limit my snacking at work.

  • Yup! That's me! I have to have at least one sweet a day. It's got so bad that people in my office now give me a heads up when we have sweets.

  • I've been drinking chocolate milk a lot as well as eating sweets (mostly chocolate). My doc said to cut out the carbs and sugar so I went to the store tonight and bought healthy stuff. I ate so healthy before my bfp. Since first Tri all bets have been off.

  • I baked two zucchini cakes yesterday, and I bought a box of donuts when I was grocery shopping. I am making it too hard to not eat sweets every day.

  • I was a fatty/salty lover prior to pregnancy, sweets were never an issue.  Even liking high fat salty foods, I was able to keep it under control.  But now?  All the sweets, give them to me.  I'm trying to balance healthy meals with the extra indulgences - it's going so-so.  Also, baby is extra active after a bowl of ice cream and the kicks make me smile.  Bring on the ice cream.

  • I didn't think I would be one of those pregnant chicks who needed sweets to survive. I got by for the first 4 months or so on fruit. I would eat pineapple or watermelon and be just fine. Lately, all I want is chocolate ice cream. I bought chocolate mochi and mini drumsticks from Trader Joe's and I just eat those when I need something to hold me over. They make me feel better for giving into a craving.

  • Is this how you get gestational diabetes?? Sweets while pregnant? If so I have a feeling I'm not going to do so well.

No.  Sweets have nothing to do with it.  If your pancreas is doing what it is supposed to be doing (producing enough insulin for what you consume), what you eat should have no effect on your blood sugar.

  • Omg was thinking about this thread last night as I made berry pie....this morning I made homemade whipped cream to go with it he he he. I seriously have to have a sweet every day it's so bad. I don't remember feeling like this last pregnancy at all. I am trying to limit myself though to like one piece of a pie a day not 2...or 3....

BTW my husband has had 3 pieces of pie already today! So I don't feel so bad.
