Trouble TTC

GTKY poll (non-IF related) :)

I'm still trying to get to know all the different members on this board outside of their IF story so I thought it'd be cool to periodically do a poll of random questions completely non - IF related.  If anyone thinks it's a lame idea, I won't be offended if you say so  ;-P  But hopefully you won't and you'll play!  (LOL)

1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?

2) What do you do for work?

3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?

4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?

5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?

  • I'll play!

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?

*I live in NW Arkansas about an hour from Missouri and a hour from Oklahoma. I LOVE my city. It's a quirky college town with a HUGE football fan-base (GO HOGS!) It's such a cool, laid back and eclectic place with just a touch of a hippie vibe. Farmers markets, museums, a great night life, hiking trails, restaurants, concerts, food truck courts...it's awesome.

    2) What do you do for work?

*I'm about to start my 6th year teaching kindergarten.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?

    * The last book I read was "The one and only" by Emily Giffin. I've been hooked on her stuff since I read "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" years ago. She never disappoints!

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?

    * I watched 22 Jump Street last week and laughed my ass off the whole time. Funnier than the first one!

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?

    * Mostly working in my classroom. They came and replaced the floors so everything had to come out. Soooo...now I've got a month to put it all back together!

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city? I live in Minnesota.  I love how beautiful it is here.  The winters stink, but the summers are pretty awesome.  It is also a highly educated state and supports the arts.

    2) What do you do for work?  I am a special education teacher.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?  I read tons, but nothing has stood out in my mind.  I am getting ready to read a few novels to get ready for the school year.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others? The last one in theaters was Our Fault in the Stars, which I loved and would recommend, though the book is better.  I watched a bunch of old Nicholas Sparks movies a couple weeks ago as well, which I enjoyed.

  • @Pintobean39 - 12 years a slave has been on my list since the Oscars!  I keep putting it off because I feel like it will be really difficult to watch.  But I probably will eventually :)

@athlete010688 - I have been wanting to take cooking classes at Sur La Table for years!  Such a cute store.

@amylev80 - I can't wait for the next Hunger Games movie either!  I liked the first book/movie the most but I really enjoy the whole series.  Katniss is so badass  :)

@emmuffy - I have an aunt/uncle and cousins in Toronto and have been wanting to return to visit them for a while.  I agree, Toronto is great!  During summers as a kid I would often go stay with my aunt and had such a blast there.

@Buttmonkey34 - One of my closest friends is from CT and was thinking of having her wedding back home in CT (we live in CA).  I was so bummed when she decided to just do it in CA because I thought it would've been cool to travel to CT and experience an area I otherwise wouldn't.  I pictured it as very charming and exactly as you described!

@AnnaClaire256 - I love Emily Giffin's books!  Now you have me wanting to read her new one  :)  I heard she'd come out with it but hadn't gotten to it yet.  I could not put down Something Borrowed and Blue.

@rainbowbridge14 - I will second what you said about the transit system.  I love being able to take BART into SF during hours when I don't want to drive there!  Sometimes I wish the line ran into more parts of the bay area but still, it works very well for me.

@Lindy&Billy - You're piquing my interest in the Divergent series now!  Maybe it'll be next after I finish my current one (reading Ayn Rand's 'Fountainhead').  And Pitch Perfect sing-along?!  So cute!

    2) What do you do for work?
Self employed: own 2 businesses; professional organizing & a design co. (handmade crafts & refurbishing). I am also a seller for clever container & young living essential oils.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
A tiny bit to finish on Inferno-I'm a Dan Brown fan, but not my fav. & in the middle of This Dark Endeavor-liking it so far :)

    TTC since April 2013
Currently testing for infertility cause and hormone imbalance.
Infertility & ovarian cyst diagnosis: May '14
B/W: 'good', more ordered to check antibodies & progesterone
    SA: Normal :)
U/Ss for cyst: who the f knows
DH's cat scan: showed encapsulated fatty growth; u/s: didn't really show much more
Breast Specialist: Most likely a large fibroid, but keeping an eye on it, repeat u/s every 6mos
HSG: clear tubes, uterus is A-ok
WHAT'S NEXT: DH's consult with surgeon to discuss next step for growth, either biopsy or surgery~Big discussion with Dr. before any possibility of starting Clomid, since I'll want another u/s before and to be monitored and he doesn't seem into that. I had to force his hand just to order the AMH test so may be looking for another OB

  • @daytonflyer - I wish I had liked Fault in our stars as much as you did (the book).  I have a hard time explaining why I didn't ....I wouldn't say I hated it but it just didn't touch me as much as I thought it would.  My brother once dated a girl who lived in Minnesota.  I wasn't a fan of hers because she seemed to jerk him around a lot and not commit (which is what he wanted).  He went to visit her in Minnesota (in January!!).  I told him he was crazy for going to MN in winter (we are spoiled Californians, haha).  He insisted that he had a blast and did all these cool things (ice fishing being one of them).  He told me that he was willing to move to MN for the girl.  Well, 2 weeks later she dumped him (I don't know if you can call it that, they were never officially together) and he was heartbroken!  My DH's uncle lives in MN and I would be interested in visiting (but NOT in winter, haha).

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in a suburb of Dallas.  I like having the city close by, but it doesn't take much to get into the country, which I love as well.  Give me some of both!  Also, the cost of living here is really nice.  Plus my family is just about an hour away, and my inlaws are about 45 min away in the other direction.  I like having family in somewhat close proximity.

    2) What do you do for work?
I'm a sales support analyst for a large manufacturing company.  I basically do quotes, reports, presentations, and anything else for a group of 6 sales engineers.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
I'm not a huge reader, but I recently read the Abduction by Mark Gimenez.  I like crime thriller books and this fit the bill.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
The last movie I saw in the theaters was Muppets Most Wanted, and it was a cute show.  Last one I recently saw from Netflix was The Lincoln Lawyer.  I thought that one was excellent.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
We are getting together with some church friends tomorrow night for a cookout and then going to my inlaws for dinner on Sunday.  I'm hoping Saturday can just be a relaxing day.  Our weekends have been pretty busy lately.
  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in Central OH. I love that we have a vibrant downtown area and that there's almost always some type of festival/event going on.

    2) What do you do for work?
I'm a financial representative for a huge financial institution (life &retirement planning).

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
Actually I haven't really read anything in the last month or so....I'm going to have to remedy that!

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
We saw the newest xmen movie, and even though I'm not the biggest xmen fan, it was really well done.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
I'm supposed to go to the waterpark then dinner with the girls....but it might rain :(.

  • I stinkin love this. I'm also secretly hoping one of you ladies lives near me. Because I'm a psycho stalker like that. Don't hate ;)

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?

I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which is right across the river from Omaha, NE (most people know of Omaha, not CB haha). But I do work and shop and do everything besides live in Omaha. What I love most is our art scene is very up and coming, lots of community theatres that bring in some great shows and talent, and I live the "Old Market" area in Omaha which is a walkable downtown area with lots of great shopping and restaurants.

    2) What do you do for work?

I am the billing lead at a respiratory & rehab company. We provide patients with medical equipment such as oxygen and CPAPs on the respiratory side, and things like wheelchairs, hospital beds, bathroom safety equipment, etc...on the rehab side. I am also a certified medical coder, which I utilize during my job by doing audits and medicare junk for the company :)

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?

Don't hate me ladies...I hate reading. I don't know why, but it just bores me. So I don't read. Ever. I did find 89 episodes of Rick Steves' Europe on Hulu yesterday though. I consider that a win.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?

I just went and saw the new Planet of the Apes. Holy crap. So good. Watch it.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?

    **Warning**

I am going to the zoo with my friend and our kids, and possibly going to the safari park as well (a driving attraction where they have animals out in the open and you drive on a path through it so they're more in their natural environment as opposed to in cages like at the zoo. It's pretty awesome).

  • @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ I've tried to make those Jell-O shots before .... They didn't look like the pic. I suggest cutting a hole in the watermelon and pouring the bottle of vodka it. :-)

WHAT'S NEXT: DH's consult with surgeon to discuss next step for growth, either biopsy or surgery~Big discussion with Dr. before any possibility of starting Clomid, since I'll want another u/s before and to be monitored and he doesn't seem into that. 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
South of San Francisco on the peninsula.  I love how close we are to the city, the forest, the beach, the mountains...you name it, we got it!

    2) What do you do for work?
I am a project manager at a tech company.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
The last book I read was "This is How You Lose Her" by Junot Diaz.  It was meh.  His first book was better.  The one I read before that was "A History of Royal Scandals" which covered sex scandals in royal families all the way back to the Roman Empire.  It was really fun.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
The last thing I saw in the theater that I loved was actually the Lego Movie.  It was really sweet and totally appropriate even if you don't have kids.  I prefer TV to movies though and have spent the last week catching up on Doctor Who!

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Probably a hike, homework, and a baseball game.  Hoping my Giants can get their shit together and start winning again.  It's not fair to deal with IF and a shitty baseball team too.

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Northwestern coast. It's right on the beach and near a rainforest. Perfect weather all year round.

    2) What do you do for work?
    Nothing to write home about.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
Rhinoceros Success and Millionaire Next Door. Both were excellent for different reasons. The latter got me fired up for retirement investments (which is hard to do), and the former got me fired up for life in general.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
I honestly can't remember. Television show-wise, I recommend the Tudors or Sherlock Holmes on Netflix.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?  I'll be at the hospital all weekend.

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in southern Louisiana. I love the town I live in so so much! It is one of those towns where everyone grew up together, their parents grew up together, etc. Although small town life isn't for everyone, it is definitely okay in my book.

    2) What do you do for work?
I am a "housewife." And by housewife I mean that I am a grad student, and I nanny full time but don't get paid enough to consider it a job. (Also, I have never referred to myself as a nanny before, because Nanny is the term for Godmother where I live. Fun fact of the day. )

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
I read constantly. The most noteworthy books I have read lately are Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and The Witness Wore Red by Rebecca Musser. Both were disturbing in their own right. I enjoyed The Witness Wore Red the most.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
The last movie I saw in theaters was Neighbors. Its not what I would choose to watch on my own, DH chose it, and it kind of pissed me off. So, I don't really have anything to recommend.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
I plan on sleeping in, and that's enough planning for me!

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
Rhode Island -- I love being by the ocean, the seasons, and the wry wit of New Englanders. :)

    2) What do you do for work?
I work as an analyst at a financial services firm. I'm a huge numbers geek.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
Do annual reports count as books? They should. The most recent book I read for fun was Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" Loved it. Love her.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
DH tastes skew towards teenage boy movies, so the last movie I saw was the new X-Men movie. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't exactly call it a movie that makes you think or feel.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
Maybe a hike in the area if the weather is nice. Doing a girls night with friends on Saturday.

@cautiouslydomestic & @pintobean39 - I grew up in Lafayette!  I might live in CA now, but I will always think of Louisiana as home.

@rainbowbridge14 - June was a constant exercise in heartbreak!  They were so far ahead!  WTF!?  Hoping they can keep up the momentum they started right before the all star break.  Also, as much as I love baseball, I never ever cry at sports.  But I was deep in the Clomid crazies when Timmy pitched that no hitter in June and I cried like a totally idiot.  So embarrassing.

  • @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌  I made those for our 4th of July party!  They came out great.  If you're following the buzzfeed instructions DO NOT use that much unflavored gelatin.  You only need about 4 packets to get the jello hard enough.  I'll post a photo from my phone of how mine turned out.

As for the questions, here are my answers:
    1. I live in Delaware.  I love being so close to cities like Phili, Baltimore, DC and NYC without the expense of any of those places.  Oh, and absolutely no sales tax is pretty nice!
    2. I am a hospital administrator, specifically a data analyst.
    3. It's cheesy YA literature, but I read the last book in the Mortal Instruments series, it was a good conclusion.
4.I second 22 Jump Street.  It was mindless but hilarious, and Channing Tatum is so nice to look at ;)
    5. No fun plans for the weekend, just relaxing with the hubby.

  • 1. Around Buffalo, NY - LOVE the weather, because I think it makes me a better person (tougher, yes, but also more appreciative, healthier, and funloving)

    2. I teach high school...loads of fun on a good day, not cute on a bad day. :)

    3. Recently, reading DH's English class anthology with him. I highly recommend studying short stories with someone from another culture/language...eye-opening and fun!

    4) The Watchers - quite intense. Aside from a bit of gratuitous violence, the story was complex and powerful, and the cinematography was unique and beautiful.

    5) Weekend plans - more time in the veggie garden (planting new rounds of radishes and carrots), and dinner with a friend since kindergarten.

@EastBayBride508 I am kind of terrified to read anymore of her books! I am a huge baby, and Dark Places FREAKED me out. Plus, I was so emotionally exhausted by the end that I couldn't make myself pick up another one. :)) Its on my list, though.

  • 1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in a northwest suburb of Chicago.  I like that Chicago is close but I live in an area with lovely subdivisions and yards.  My dream is to live in a medium-sized home in a subdivision with a nice little fence (I swear I belong in the 50s).

    2) What do you do for work?
I work as an administrator in an Employee Assistance Program and therapists' office.  I am also in grad school and will soon be a therapist myself.

    3) What book have you read most recently and what did you think of it?
I just finished the 2nd book in the Game of Thrones series, and am now on the 3rd.  I loooove them.  I am trying to stay away from the HBO series until after I finish all of the books because I am completely enveloped in my imaginary Game of Thrones world.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
I will second @kcheese and recommend Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
I have class Friday, Saturday and Sunday while my husband goes on an out-of-town fishing trip with the guys in my family.  Not the most fun of weekends....

  • Thanks for starting this, I love seeing what everyone is like outside of IF!

    1) What part of the US do you live in and what do you love most about your town/city?
I live in Albany, NY.  I love the fall in NY, when the leaves start changing color and it's time for apple picking (and cider doughnuts mmm).

@eastbaybride508 I'm a pharmacist too! I work for Target.  Are you retail or hospital?

@AnnaClaire256 I just finished the one and only too!  I love all of her books, I get so excited when a new one comes out.

    4) What movie have you watched most recently that you would recommend to others?
The last movie I watched was pretty old, not sure if anyone else has seen it- Fargo.  My dad told me to watch it because there's a new tv show based on it that isn't as good, so I gave it a try and it was actually good!

    5) Any plans for the upcoming weekend?
I have a bridal shower, a trip to visit the inlaws, and a 30th bday party.  Kinda wish I could just lay by the pool though...

  • @cautiouslydomestic‌ I may be getting close. My dad was raised in Basile (towns don't get much smaller than that) and he was born in Eunice because obviously there is no hospital in Basile. I have family in Jennings and Kinder although most of the family I remember have since passed away. I visited that area a lot growing up when my grandmother lived there. My dad use to go back and go to Mardi Gras in Mamou, I never went but it's on my bucket list. Actually I think our family reunion was in Ville Platte not long ago and I was suppose to go but a fertility treatment kept me from attending.
    Fucking bump!!!!
