Vent: I just want to sleep

Guys, I'm losing it. I went to sleep at 10:40, DD woke up at 11. I went to sleep again at 11:15, she woke at 11:30...12...12:30...it's 1:30 now and she just woke up again, each time with me falling back asleep in between. There is nothing apparently wrong with her. I have no effing clue what the problem is. I've tried all of our usual stuff.

I haven't slept longer than 5hrs in a stretch since she was born, y'all. I'm about to get me some damn earplugs. I thought we might not even notice the 18mo sleep regression since DD has been a shitty sleeper this whole time and has still been up 3x per night up until now, but that HAS to be the problem. O. M. Re: Vent: I just want to sleep

  • Thanks, @MichieU79‌. After I posted, she slept for 3hrs, at which point her father getting ready for work woke her up as usual. In bed with me, then up at 6:30. Sigh. I hope to God this doesn't last a month!

  • All I can say is that I'm right there with you. Ava does not sleep well, and is usually up 2-3 times/night still, 2 asking for milk. Sleeping 5 hours straight would almost seem like a miracle to me. The 18-month sleep regression has entailed her waking up way more, up to 6 times/night with no real need, and me having to sleep on a pallet of blankets with her in the floor. And then we get up at 6:30 to get ready for daycare/work. She gets a 2-hr nap at daycare, but unfortunately my employer just won't give me one! Haha. I'm exhausted, and feel your pain! Hopefully this will end soon for both of us!

  • Ugh you guys I'm so sorry. We have been up a ton but with DD and her stupid ear issues I can't tell the difference between ear cries and regression ones so I'm sure pay of it is that too. Caffeine is my best friend. :-)...

... My husband and I have made a pact where I can wear one earplug and since he sleeps harder than me he wakes me if she wakes him. Otherwise she keeps me up all night long with her restlessness! That way I only get up if she cries.

  • We haven't yet hit the sleep regression (DS was born at the end of the month), but I just wanted you to know you have my sympathy, and I really hope it gets better.  Does your Dr have anything to say about it?  Would mixing up the bedtime routine help at all?

I know one of the moms in DS's parent-child class was having sleep issues with their child (he was just turning 2 at the time, but like your DD, he never slept through the night and was up 2-3 times every night), and they went to a functional medicine/holistic Dr. (still an MD, but certainly not one to just give them a pill and call it a day), and they made some diet changes that seemed to help.  I'm not sure exactly what they did, but I know they cut out all high fructose corn syrup and food dyes for sure.
