<---- most definitely getting the mirror for the car. Haterz gon hate.
I will be looking at you out of my mirror also. Honestly, it's probably the safest thing I'll have in my car since it's the only thing actually tied to something. Unless people can honestly say that they will never bring a coffee cup or bottle in the car with them, not having a mirror makes no sense.
We haven't really been given anything yet so we haven't had to deal with that; however, we have had to deal with a ton of advice/feedback on our parenting choices. My Mother is pretty vocal, my Dad says nothing and my in-laws say nothing to us directly -- they just "gossip" about us and our choices behind our backs to my SIL's.
My Mom cannot understand why we won't try cloth diapering. Although that's great for some it's just something that we are not interested in doing. (Note: My Mom raised my sister and I with disposable diapers.)
My Mom has constantly asked me, when I look at baby formula, "you aren't going to feed her that "stuff" are you?". I remind her that I am hoping to BF; however, there are a lot of reasons that cause BF to not work out and I just want to be prepared in case we need to use formula. (Note: She never BF my sister or I and fed us that "stuff".)
Like @knovitski I am a huge bargain shopper and everyone knows it. My Mom tried talking us into buying the crib, car seat, stroller, pack n' play and more at garage sales. I had to sit her down and explain that I did not feel comfortable buying those types of items used by strangers. With cribs, you never know if someone has had bugs in their house that could come home with you in the crib. I also refuse to buy a car seat or the base used, because you are taking the word of the seller that the seat/base has never been in an accident. That's just not a risk I am willing to take. Plus, cleaning a lot of those where I would feel comfortable using them would almost be impossible.
In the end, I've learned that I just have to politely put myself on repeat with our parenting stances. Since we are FTP, I am sure everyone is seeing where our lines will be drawn and as time goes on -- I hope -- they will back off a bit.

Haha that's a good point, too. I have crap rolling around my car all the time, it seems. Even when it's clean, DD usually has a water bottle or toy in there. Plus my purse, phone, etc. etc.

Get the mirror! No way I would not get a mirror. I like to be able to see the baby, make sure he's ok, etc... Our mirror has Velcro straps that wrap around the headrest and secure together. And it weighs less than my cell phone so yeah, like PP said, if you're worried about that you might as well make sure your car is completely empty.
The rule I found on Car Seats for the Littles is "would you be ok throwing this at your child's face". I think that's a little stringent, and we are going to have a mirror, strapped down of course.
