Showing?!?!

I'm 25 weeks pregnant before I was pregnant I weighed 143 and now I weigh about 158 so I have out on some weight ... When I tell people I'm pregnant and they ask how far along I am and I tell them they look at me like I'm nuts and then go on to tell me how when they were 25 weeks they were twice my size... It makes me feel like it's not normal I do plan on asking my obgyn but I wanted to see what other mothers may think ? It is normal to not show so much at 25 weeks? Does it depend on the person ? Or could it mean my baby isn't healthy? :-/

  • I'm assuming this is your first. Yes, it can be normal. As long as you are getting prenatal care, they will tell you if baby isn't developing properly. With my first I didn't show until almost 8 months. My second I showed around 6 months and this pregnancy I'm barely showing. I see my neighbor almost daily and she had no idea until we told her yesterday.
  • Are you asking us if we think your baby is healthy based on how many pounds you've put on? Or how you are carrying the weight? I'm confused. We're all different and only your doctor can tell you if there's cause for concern. If you read some old posts, you'll see that a lot of us aren't showing much at this point.

  • My sister and I are both pregnant, days apart, and were about the same size pre-pregnancy. I look like I could have the baby any day now and she is barely showing. She asked her doctor out of curiosity and he said it is likely that my uterus is anteriorly placed compared to hers being posterior. No big deal. Be glad you don't have a huge belly getting in your way already :-)

Thank you for the insight I was just curious as to what others thought it means allot for your reply :-) my sister in law is pregnant just announced she was 6 weeks and she's already showing...everybody is different I know being that this is my first child it's comforting knowing other mothers are the same or have gone through the same thoughts and experiences :)

6 week "bump"= bloat or poop.

  • OP, to elaborate on others' good suggestions to ask your doctor, bump size (what you see when you look in the mirror) and uterus size are not always in agreement. At your next appointment, ask your doctor to measure your fundal height (s/he might do this routinely, anyway). Doc will simply run a measuring tape from your pubic bone up to the top of your uterus. Your fundal height gives an approximation of how big your uterus and baby are.

I second and third this - As long as your doctor says all is well, why worry about how much you're showing. Lately all I feel is all belly and would love to be 5-10 pounds less belly. But my docs say my size is spot on as is my weight, so I go with it.

  • Hey OP, I'm totes okay you didn't post an intro. Adds a little mystery and intrigue to the board. It IS significantly more difficult for me to answer questions without knowing how old you are or how long you've been married, but whatevs. Sacrifices, right?

I barely showed at 25 weeks with DS. This time around I'm ginormous. Don't worry, you're normal and I'm sure baby is fine!

@TicketTuesday‌ lol. This is true because if you have been married more than two years you probably already have a bump. It may be a food/beer/love bump, but it's a bump.
  • Girl I just enjoyed not being overly "huge" for a while! No offense to those who show earlier of course. This is my first and most people could only start telling last week. I'm 26 weeks now. I have a feeling when they hit growth spurts our bellies will be very obvious! I've also gained a little too much weight according to my doc... Arrggghhh! It sounds like you haven't gained too much so that probably has something to do with it as well. :)
