My daughter is 14 months today and we have just become accustomed to waking with her at night. She wakes 1 to 2 times at night and generally wants mommy to cuddle her and sometimes wants the bottle. Many nights I sleep with her in the couch. She absolutely refuses to go in her crib awake so I put her in once she is asleep. I want her to learn to soothe herself but my attempts at letting her CIO have not worked because I pick her up after 15 minutes. I feel like I am ready to try again but just wanted to get other mom's input.
Thanks.
Re: is crying it out successful at 14 months?
We did CIO but had gotten her accustomed to a routine first! We are strict on bath, bottle, book, and then bed. The first week i would go on walks after i put her down and DH would listen to make sure the crying was never a pain cry. We only keep blankies and animals in the crib. We've been so successful that if she starts to get cranky all we have to ask is if she is ready to go nite nite. she will find the closest blanky and cuddle with it. In extreme situations she will cuddle in front of her room door.
ANYWAYS if one of you can put up with the crying its best to leave that person in charge. If 15minutes is all that you are comfortable with for CIO then whomever goes in needs to NOT pick LO up. We would just put a pacifier in her mouth, lay her back down, and restart her music. Its to the point now she will only wake up if in pain (fever/teething).
Good luck and always remember you are the only one that knows whats best for your LO.
