How many naps does LO take?

I was noticing in the SAHM check-in that people's schedule differs. My LO can only be awake 2 hours before she gets cranky. Wondering how long your LO is awake between naps and how many naps also takes?

Re: How many naps does LO take?

  • I chose two, but the afternoon nap is iffy most days.  He naps for 1.5-3 hrs in the morning (starting btwn 9:30 and 10:30) so depending on when he goes down for that and how long it lasts he may not take the afternoon nap.

  • I picked 4, but she will do between 3 & 6: 1 long, 1-2 medium, 2-3 short.
  • Where is the option for "my baby does not nap enough?"

I chose 4. Two catnaps, two big naps. But that's on a good/ideal day.

My LO has about 1-2hrs of "awake" time before she's super cranky pants. She takes 2-3 naps, usually two good length 1-3hrs and one shorter cat nap around 30-45mins. Sometimes only two long ones depending on the day.

ETA - I meant to clarify, I put awake in quotes all weird-like because generally part of that awake time is me putting her back to sleep.

  • I chose 2 naps but sometimes she throws a little 15-20 minute power nap in there. I don't count that though :)
  • We rarely get more than a 40 minute nap. It's like she has an internal timer where after 40 minutes, hello peepers!

I chose 4, but some of those are only cat naps.

it depends on the day. she'll usually take 2 longer naps but then takes another one or two little ones. and by little, I mean by the time I put her down and pee, she's usually up again. it we're out though, she'll sleep forever.

edited because some babies sleep for 3 hours?! I consider 45 minutes long. I'm so jealous of your lyfe.

We're at 3-5 naps, depending on quality. I would love three good naps, but that doesn't always happen.

I feel like a good portion of my day is spent trying to get one of the two kids to sleep. Not always enjoyable.

  • She usually take 2 naps, one in the morning and second in the afternoon, each nap 1 - 2 hours length and rarely a 1 cat nap late noon before bedtime. But if we are out at someones house just 1 cat nap or none.
  • Generally 2, but if we're out and about, he conks out in the car seat whenever we're moving.
  • Depends on your definition of "nap"...

She usually sleeps three times during the day at DC or my mom's, plus dozing in the car both on the way there and the way home. On weekends, we're lucky if she gets in 2-3 naps, and none are really ever more than 45ish min.

  • L'il Cauliflower usually does two naps that are anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours - the first one around 10am and the second one around 2:30pm. I almost chose three naps, because on days when his naps haven't been fantastic, he might conk out for half an hour around 6 or 7. (Dinner/wine time, y'all!)

Why do you envy those whose LOs take just one nap?

We're usually at three naps. Two are around 30 minutes and one for an hour.

I was thinking of it in terms of "my baby only NEEDS one nap". In that case, the baby would never be cranky and so wouldn't need more naps.

I see now that actually babies only taking one nap would probably be a nightmare.
  • I have no idea how many naps she takes, chick does what she wants. She can be awake for hours and hours with no prob though.

  • I've been trying to get Reece on a nap schedule, although he's mainly set it himself. He naps for about 30 min @10am, 2+ hours @ 2 and then another small nap about 6, although he fights that one sometimes. Goes to bed around 9, and usually wakes up at 8:30. He's been fighting naps a bit though when it's hot. The second I take him to the basement where it's cool, he passes right out.

Same here. So we get 4-5 naps a day, but we're lucky is one is pushing a hour.
  • I voted 2 because generally I can get 2 good 2 hour naps from her with 1 short 45min mixed in there.

However, since we have been visiting my family, that has all gone to hell and I'm lucky if she sleeps for more than 30 min once a day. @-)
  • I don't know.  I guess 3-4?  It's random.

Based on her daycare sheets, I said 5. And they are always less than an hour. I am hoping that they start to stretch out soon because it seems like we're always trying to put her down for a nap, only to have her up again in no time, and then cranky shortly thereafter.
