Room Sharing...

in 2nd Trimester

first off let me start were we live in a large 3bedroom farmhouse, but im trying to figure our where our new baby boy(eeek so excited just found out) is going to sleep or rather where his crib should be! unfortunately I don't have another room to make another nursery, I have a 4yr old boy and a 2yr old girl wich each have their own rooms at the moment, but what would you do,

a. put the babys crib and changing table in your room

b. put it in the 4yr olds room (since they eventually half to share) and risk them constantly waking up the 4yr old.

either way the baby will sleep in something in out room weather it be a bassinet or w/e for a while anyway but thinking it might be easier to just put the crib in our room and when he starts sleeping thru the night then let him room share with big brother, either way his clothes will be in big brothers room as well as toys right away,


just looking for others opinions, :) ty in advanced for you opinions!!

    I would put the baby's stuff in your room for the first year or so, and then switch to the 4 year old's room once the baby is napping and sleeping through the night consistently.  I would give your 4 year old his space for a while - having a new baby in the house may be an adjustment for him, after a year (or 9 months or whatever) he will be better adjusted to sharing your attention and hopefully sharing his room.

    that's kind of what I was thinking, guess I just needed to hear it from someone else too lol

    Room sharing is ideal for breast feeding (if that is your choice). Also, it is believed to help regulate breathing patterns for newborns. They can hear mommy & it can help reduce SIDS risk.

    Honestly it depends on the personalities of your kids. My older brother and I loved sharing a room as young kids. I would at least have baby in your room for the first 6-12 weeks as this is what my pedi recommends. Once you get a feel for how things are going you can make room changes as needed.

    thanks ladies, I do breastfeed so I think im going to room share for a little while but my hubby isn't comfortable putting our girl and boy in the same room even tho he is 4 and her 2 as next year he goes to school and she still doesn't sttn.... she always wakes up and ends up in bed with me or the other way around.... slowly fixing it and its getting better tho! I wasn't even thinking we have 2 extra rooms(small as they are) off of our room we use for storage, my hubby said about opening one of them up as use for a nursery so that the baby will have his own room even if it is off of ours for a year or until he is ready to share with big brother, ty so much for the advice!

    This is what I was thinking, too. It's not like they're teenagers or something and need privacy from each other. If they get along, they might even like sharing a room.

    I babysat for a family when I was younger, 2 boys aged 10 and 4, a girl, aged 8, with another baby girl on the way. They put the crib in the 8 year olds room, and it worked for a short period- but with the baby waking and constant sleep interruptions, the 8 year old girl just went to sleep in her older brothers room on a little pull out mattress. When the baby turned 1, things started to go back to normal and the 8 year old resumed sleeping in her room, with her baby sister. Hope that made sense/helped!
