I don't think anyone "ripped you a new one." You got great advice IMO. It really is considered poor form to bad mouth one board to another.

Please don't use Avelyn. Your child will have to explain it constantly her entire life. I agree with PPs who said try to find a more conventional name or spelling to incorporate the same phonetic effect.  Amelie, perhapd?

I'm a bit mortified it was taken so seriously! Like I said in my post, I do NOT think that board is mean, I just wanted to get more opinions from ladies I trust and talk to. There is one poster who I thought was a little rude but other than that I just decided to broaden my spectrum a little, and throw a few more names I like out there to get perspective. The title wasn't meant to be taken so seriously. :P I did go back to that thread and apologize though.

Regarding changing the name, see I look at Amelie and have no idea how to pronounce that. Or Aveline, though they both look pretty. But I find that the same issue is run into if I were to go with Avelyn. I feel like any of the three might need some explaining or spelling out at some point. All are beautiful though. :) thank you for your opinion!

  • As someone with a unique name I wouldn't get into something that can be easily mispronounced. I've been getting shit for my name my whole life. Still to this day 60% of people I meet or talk to on the phone for work say my name wrong. My RE said my name wrong for 7 months. I stopped correcting people years ago.

I love Elliott, that is the name we've chosen for a boy!
