Prayer request - mom just diagnosed with cancer

I'm catching up on the board from the past couple days, but I would really appreciate if you ladies could send some positive vibes/thoughts/prayers to my mom and family. My mom is 49, and on Friday she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is hoping to meet with a surgeon this week, so we can get a game plan and find out what stage the cancer is in. We really don't know a lot other than having an official diagnosis. Obviously we are hoping it hasn't spread into the lymph nodes, and that as far as cancer goes, it will be a fairly easy to treat.

I would really appreciate it. I'm kind of numb right now. I know anyone of any age can get cancer, but I really wasn't expecting it especially at 49. We have no history of breast cancer in the family. Fortunately my mom is remaining positive, and we are all hoping and praying for the best.

I'm sorry about your mom's diagnosis, sending thoughts and prayers for a best case scenario re stage and other characteristics. My mom was diagnosed at 50, they treated her aggressively with surgery, chemo, radiation, and hormones, and she's still cancer free 7 years later.

So sorry to heart this! Sending thoughts and prayers your way and wishes for strength for your mom as she fights on in the journey ahead. To hopefully give you guys some hope.. My MIL was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer 6/4/2013... And on 6/5/2014 she was cancer free! (Hers had spread into Brain, lymph nodes and bones) -- technology and medicine has come a long long way! Have faith in the doctors and treatments -- we were all stunned when she was cleared last month! Let me know if there's any information I can provide to help out!

I'm sorry you're going throught this. To add to the many PPs who have personal experiences, my aunt was diagnosed a couple of years ago. She has a mastectomy, chemo and radiation and two years later she is cancer free and very healthy. It's amazing what our bodies and technology can do. Lots of thoughts and prayers for you and your family! My dad was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago and even though it was caught very early and everything is going great it's still very scary, especially at first when you don't have all the info. Fingers crossed for an excellent outcome!

@lissydee - I asked her about the BRCA gene, and she didn't seem to know anything about it so I don't think they've gotten that far into the convo yet since she was just diagnosed. I will remind her to ask about it though when she meets with her doc.

I'll be keeping your mom and you in my thoughts and prayers.

It is such a scary thing to go through, but medicine is so amazing these days! My MIL was diagnosed in March 2013 with a very rare, very aggressive form of breast cancer, and it had already spread and was in stage 4 when they found it. She was treated with two rounds of chemo, and had a double mastectomy, but after 1 year and 4 months, she is now cancer free! She remained positive throughout everything and had a lot of love and support from family, friends and other women with the same diagnosis.

Omg, fuck cancer is right. My mom had a scare last year but they removed it and she was OK. My grandma had breast cancer and they removed it as well and it didn't spread! I'm so sorry you're going through this. I really hope they caught it early on, and even if not, the chances of removing are still good! I will be thinking of you and your family. Please keep us posted with any new information! She can totally beat this!!!!
