Im two and a half weeks out and I've trimmed mine when they started loosening. Seems like they may be off in another week but wanted to make sure that wasnt too early.
my doc also said at my one week appointment, "take those off in the shower tonight. you don't need them anymore, now they are just bacteria collectors."
5 years TTC, no luck with IUI's, failed IVF June 2013,
FET Oct 2013 with delayed transfer, intralipids, lovenox & prednisone= first BFP of my life!
My doctor just told me to let them fall off but it does make sense that they would be "bacteria collectors". I had stitches not staples but I'm assuming it doesn't make a difference..
I've had them with all three c/s. The first two times, my doctor instructed me to remove them myself after two weeks. They'd started to lift at the edges so it was easy. This time, I had an incision check yesterday and my OB removed them herself because she discovered that I'd developed a severe allergic reaction to them. It itches sooooo bad. I'm using hydrocortisone cream a zillion times a day. My doctor told me I can't ever have steri strips again for any type of surgery now that I've shown a reaction to them.
Mine came off (with some help from me - but they were loose) on day 12. Holy Moses did those things stink! They smelled like the antibiotics I had been on in the hospital - they permeated every inch of my being and I oozed their nasty scent from pores, in my urine and everywhere.
